I don't get modular - like, why can you do stuff in the modular world you can't do in pedals? Isn't modular just a format (with a different standard when it comes to routing)? Is the routing stuff the best part?

You can do a ton in a modular that you can't with pedals, and the opposite is true as well but not as much. For one thing a Modular synth is that, a synth and not just a drone synth thing but it can do that, or it can be a modular sound processor. You are correct about the routing aspect being a major advantage. With a modular you are in essence building the sound you want, component by component, so it is about sound design too, and you can have many parallel thing happening at once then bring them into a mixer module ex. a Quad Tap Temp LFO, with each LFO running on it's own division of the tempo-1x,2x,1/8 and 1/2 and each LFO being routed to different modules, and on and on. That is just a minor example, plus there are really awesome sequencers, I know of a few sequencers in pedal format but not many and not as in depth as the modular.
In the end with modular, it is like building a custom instrument and pedals, component by component. Fun, expensive, addicting.

Thanks bro!
Man, pedals and guitars is expensive enough - I'm going to stay well away from this modular business.

Good Choice. I started down this path, and am really considering selling what I have before I get in too deep. Another part of me wants to get weird with it!

I guess I'm not seeing why it's different from just a really huge pedal board.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAND then it just seems like a really big giant expensive hard to move pedal board that only got utilized at about 5% of its capabilities.

Yeah, it really is mostly about the routing. The reason I decided to go modular was because of the routing limitations in the all-in-one synths that I've used. I was looking at getting a Moog Little Phatty. Just one example of the routing limitations is the LFO on a Little Phatty. The LP's LFO can only be routed to one of 3 places, the filter cutoff, the synth pitch, and the synth waveform. That's it. You can't have the LFO control the resonance knob of the filter. Or the gain knob on the amplifier. Or the ASDR portions of the envelope generator. You just can't do it.
With a modular, you have an LFO (or 2 or 4 or however many you want), and you can make it control literally ANY fucking thing you want. You also can't change the order of modules in a pre-built synth. In a modular, you can patch things together in any order you want.
And there are so many synth modules that just don't have pedal versions at all.

So I got a sliver rose yesterday and that motherfucker rips. I was not a muff person but there is something about this combo that makes it ultra doomy. Kind of at a loss what to get next for my board I have thrown some random offer's for trades and what not and nobody seems to want too bite. Also debating if I should get a power supply or say fuck it and buy more modulation or save for a mobius ...... hrmmmmmm
