But the million dollar question is...overdubs??

If you hold record while holding play, I think it does. (It's just wired to pushbuttons for testing right now) The input and output are wired in a way that the output of the playback can be input to the recording. Like I said, I need to experiment with it more, and maybe get some other chips, because I'm not happy with the current chip. :idk:

Wait, couldn't you not build a SHO?

I have a background in computer engineering and computer programming. Putting together digital logic chips is easy. :idk: I put together the sample circuit from the datasheet of a one-chip solution to store up to 20 seconds of audio; got it in a DIP rather than SMD format in the latest Digikey group buy.

I feel like I can solder pretty well, too.. I've been doing that for like 15 years at this point, at least. Maybe more than that; I learned it from Navy engineers at summer camp when I was a kid.

The SHO clone is frustrating because it is so damn simple and because of the size on perfboard: I built it to fit into a 1590a (tiny, Malekko omicron-sized) case, and so the circuitboard is actually small enough to glue to the back of the pot, or about half the size of a postage stamp. Here's one layout I was considering, posting it just to show off the size of the board:

Well, that's impressive nonetheless. I surely can't do shit, so more props to you.

There can be only one?

That's the idea. Battle Royale with the Tall Font Russian this week. Should have a decision by next Sunday.

For those that are interested (this should really be a thread in DIY forum sorry) here's the chip I'm using:
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSea ... SD1420P-ND
and datasheet:
http://media.digikey.com/pdf/Data%20She ... Rev1.3.pdf

The difference between the sample circuit given and what I built is that I've added a latching switch, a transistor and a relay to the LED circuit. The relay replaces the pushbutton playback switch. When not in record mode and the playback stops, the LED pulses to indicate it has reached the end of the recording, in which case the transistor gets fired, which fires the relay and "pushes" the playback button again. The latching switch is used in place of the playback button to provide power to the transistor/relay, so the loop continuously plays while it is clicked on.

I haven't been able to get it to overdub, but I'm just playing with it when I should be working; ie, I'm not in the makerspace lab and not really thinking that hard about it yet. Maybe with two of these chips and more complicated switching I could overdub by playing on one chip and recording onto the other. Dunno.

I have a new goal in life:

After I finish selling all my stuff I'm going buy a muza fd900 and put the rest towards one of these synths  I've been looking at this synth for a couple years now, and after watching that video I'm gassing harder than ever. There's one on ebay I'm thinking about picking up as soon as my stuff sells, even though it has some issues it's still cheaper than one usually sees these go for. It doesn't have as many features as some synths, but that sound, that sound

I'm hoping to get a Framus 2x12 cabinet this weekend to go with my amp!!! I really hope it works out as I've been wanting one for the longest time and just want to get my setup back to the volumes I used to have it. I'm lucky I have 4/8/16 ohm outputs and have been using others cabinets up until now ;\

I can then sell my 1x12 and a bunch of other gear I haven't got around to and start shopping for an interface or guitar! :D

My money is on the Supercollider. I haven't used the other two yet but the Supercollider is AWESOME. :joy:

I will try a G&L ASAT Classic (blonde) next weekend.
Not sure yet, I have to try it. It will also depend of the price.

I have the Tall Font Russian, this is the Pickle Pie B. I like the TFR, but its too low gain for me, which is surprising because I thought that was what I wanted.

So far I can say that I am really digging the PPB and the Manx, which is surprisingly bass friendly. Need to get them with the big rig to figure it out.
