Monson Nomad #9

Right when I was pondering getting the OD120 or a Gibson LP standard Brent posted this to facebook at a price I couldn't say no too! I have barely gotten to hold it as I picked it up at lunch but the neck is amazing and all the little touches, such as the perfect angling on the bridge to allow wider range of intonation and to follow the natural angle of your hand when palm muting, to the recessed neck bolts on the back (yeah its a bolt on), make it totally worth it. I'm putting a set of SD Black Winters in it tonight before I plug it in, I pondered BKP's but after talking to a few people I decided to get the SD's for half the price. Overall I'm FUKKIN STOKED. :yay:

And a full frontal pic for you gear voyeurs:

Man…did not see that coming…i thought it was another amp of some sort…this…this…is beautiful…big congrats.

in other news, my GAS is at uncontrollable levels right now…

so the story is, i bought a Jet City 50w, which is nice…but today i got a couple offers for two different Matamps…one is the King Street head and 1x12 cab, and the other is the 1224 Mk2 head, both end up about the same price. price wise i can cover it if i sell my new amp set up and a couple of pedals…but I've only had the Jet City for about 2 months, which i feel isn't long enough before selling something.

i'm really lost…on one hand i want to keep the Jet City, on the other i think if i'm considering these other amps, then maybe i'm not happy with the jet city and i'm fooling myself...

That's why I kept it super secret hahaha

Honestly if your gonna go Matamp go big or go home IMO. Those two are more classic and modern rock voiced amps, less traditional in comparison to what we expect from Matamp. If you had an offer for a GT series or something similar I'd say go for it. But I think you'll be just as good off with the jet city, unless like you said theres something about it that makes you consider getting another amp.

thanks man…that is the best piece of advice to stop me from buying those mat amps. I agree with you…you either get the one or nothing. I did the same with my SG standard and i think thats what cured my guitar GAS…i don't think i would have felt the same if i got a studio (which isn't bad by the way).

so…have you plugged that beast in? how does it sound??

No problem! and yeah man studio or faded SG's aren't bad but the standard is a cut above!

Not yet, I picked it up on my lunch break and snapped the pics in my work parking lot hahaha when I get home before I plug it in I'm gonna swap in a set of SD Black Winter pickups and do a mild setup to correct for being stuck in a ups truck for almost two weeks.... the only thing I noticed is a lil buzz on the first frets of the high E so it should be just a subtle tweak.

That guitar looks like the baby of an Iceman and a Les Paul... if you left it on the dashboard of your car all summer.

I dig.

shoot me a PM. I'll mail you one of the extra extensions I have for a one spot for the cost of shipping. If you need a one spot, too, I'll mail you that for a couple bucks.
Thanks, dude. PM incoming!

And I still need to forage through my attic to look for that wah...the wife and baby have kept me pretty occupied recently
Ancient Astronaught wrote:Nice dude!!!! I liked that lil vid you posted online. Seems like everyone I know around here is going to Marshall / Peavey stereo rigs. The dude I bought my parachute wah from used to run 2 vintage Model T's and he sold them both to pick up a JCM800 and a 5150, but he did change from playing doom to black metal but eh.
800/5150 sounds like such a rad rig. I bet it could still bring the doomz in the right hands too.

Get that 1224 mk2. If you don't like it I will trade you two Jet City 50s for it. Mind you, I've never played a Matamp. I just want one so bad my dick hurts sometimes.

so much great gear everyone's getting. i've been chewing on the idea of a monson for long time. soon, i might be able to actually afford one and i'll have to really consider it. the ones i've had the privilege of fiddling with have been amazing to play. brent seem alike a cool dude too. that svt is fucking awesome too. i'd take it over a meat smoke any day, honestly. i love those old svt's and that one is a really good deal. i can't believe schnikes finally got his guitar. congratulations.

That's the problem with forums. I see a bunch of new stuff getting acquired, and my mind doesn't acknowledge that it's multiple people randomly getting stuff, it just sees someone that's not me getting things. Ugh
