For mode 3 here are the finer details to maximize its potential:
EXP switch does not switch what the expression pedal does in this mode. Instead it activates more playback copies! Up is just one copy controlled by DIR 1 knob, mid is 2 copies with second copy controlled by DIR 2 knob, down is 3 copies, third copy controlled by DIR 3 knob. In mode 3 expression pedal can still be used but will ALWAYS control the DIR 1 knob.
Quantize those speeds for melodic mastery:
This is a bit annoying but there is no dedicated switch for quantization. To change the DIR knobs quantization go to mode 1 (mode switch up) and tap the soft footswitch with the DIR 1 in different positions. (see: viewtopic.php?f=206&t=43246&start=96#p868906). Now when you go back to mode 3, all DIR knobs are quantized!
If you master these 2 concepts there is not much else to know about mode 3. Subtleties maybe are you get about 8 seconds of looping. If you hold down the record for more than 8 seconds it will just wrap around and start layering over the original recording. Every subsequent layer/hold of record starts recording at the beginning of the recording regardless of the position of any of the read heads (what you are hearing).
