I think that guns are very much a part of the cultural conversation on killing in the US. Guns are just so easy. You point them, pull a trigger and someone dies/gets injured/etc. You don't have hand to hand fighting, like you would with knives or whatever. Killing someone with a gun is just easier, and I don't see that as a good thing.

Also, people who think they will do the right thing in a scary situation while they have a loaded gun should look at the story of the grandfather who killed his grandson in the middle of the night. Grandpa thought he was protecting against a break in and the kid was just trying to sneak back in the house after going out late.

Or the man who shot the drunk young black woman on his front porch. He felt as though he were in danger, because our culture tells us everyone is scary and we need guns to protect ourselves.

Saying that guns are just a tool and something else would replace them is just not a fair argument, IMO. There is nothing quite as easy as buying a gun in the US.

I grew up in a family that hunts actively. I own a shotgun and I see nothing wrong with guns in certain situations, but beyond that, it is scary and gross to me.

There's a pretty obvious difference between a fishing pole and a gun.

i think the idea of having the consititutional right to arms to defend yourself from personal harm and oppressive government is a great idea.
unfortunately most americans only ever seem to use those arms to shoot defenceless animals, their ex's new partner and school children.
and while they are doing so government oppression gets ever worse.
