Just to be clear, I am against kickstarter because it has no recourse for the people who set them up. I'm sure it's a good tool when used right. But then again, it just doesn't sit well with me. I would never personally use it because I don't believe in it. I would rather fund things up front if the need be or borrow the money from elsewhere. I am lucky because I have the ability to have help from other sources if I need some investing. That comes largely from my years of previous work.

So I think the main issue here is that Devi (again, I like Devi for what she does and her pedals for the most part are great IMO, plus she's really helped me out, so she gets my benefit of the doubt) did not comply with one of the rules of kickstarter

"Kickstarter cannot be used to raise money for causes, whether it's the Red Cross or a scholarship, or for "fund my life" projects, like tuition or bills"

A failed project, is a failed project. Shit like that happens all the time. If you invest in anything and lose your ass, the company you invested in does not have a obligation to repay you unless it is stated in a binding contract.

i just wish Devi would get some help. she's been in a more-or-less continual meltdown ever since i first visited her forum, and she suffers a lot more than necessary. it stopped being any kind of funny a long, long time ago.

This is super shitty but I also think you shouldn't fund a Kickstarter unless you're comfortable with it failing down the line...it is an investment after all. Kinda risky. Obviously it's a bigger issue when it's a $100+ modular effects console and not a $10 indie game but it's a gamble

I'm (sorta) cool with funding and the idea failing, but Devi said 20k would do Console, then spends 20k on, amongst other things "personal expenses".

Kickstarter is only shift when your contributors aren't aware of the risks. Otherwise it's caveat emptor.

what a giant bummer of a situation all around. I actually liked the Console idea and though about getting in on it but didn't.

i hope all those who put in money get something back. i wonder who bought out the DE name and stuff....
