In that recording, I adjusted the two knobs to basically cover both of their ranges, separately, and together.

That was done with a cheap Radioshack patch cable from the output (which produces a really overwhelming synthy octave effect that never shuts up). With higher-grade cables, it sounds totally different... a really nasty, "sizzling" distortion on some settings, and a bunch of oscillation that also never shuts up.

If not 386 then 555, I wonder if it's on a simmilar design basis to the Atari Punk Console, I know the builder used to be a member of a DIY forum where he probably got some of his ideas from.
