Sorry, I have physical trouble typing that name out correctly; and if you could see into my mind you would know I genuinely tried on the first one.

I hate the ethics of any big company, or companies driven by profit at any cost (in case anyone was wondering why I don't build more shit than the slow trickle I manage, hahaha).

But weighed against the vintage gear gatekeepers and cost of admission for archaic objects or hand built replicas, I have come to begrudgingly accept that what they do - the tools they offer, are more boon than bane (yes, I'm sidestepping some ethical quandaries here, and just generalizing in general against the backdrop of late stage consumerism). I personally go out of my way to avoid shooting money directly at them, but the objects themselves do not carry taint in my opinion. I have gear with a B on it I have wound up with from used purchases or trade for work, and I've no complaints whatsoever.

A lot of the artists I cut my teeth on started with second hand cast away level gear, that has returned to AS NEW pricing factoring inflation with 40 years of wear and tear. It's crazy, and the people rabidly original about what they choose to use are operating on a different wavelength than I.

I'm excited about gear development in the looming years (in general, my own work included), though I expect certain aspects of actual trade will suffer because of some unwieldy short-sightedness.

It’s mainly the shitty edgelord nonsense and going after other companies whose IP they’re appropriating (often by weaponizing their fanboy flying monkeys) that really puts me off.

i see it as a question of useful tools. i don't go out of my way to buy their stuff, but i have a Roland 606 clone in an adorable purple transparent case which works just fine. i'm also looking at the Spring 636 reverb unit, and if they ever get their thumb out of their ass with the Juno-60 clone i'll be all over that...my favorite synth guy relies on the OG unit. and i really can't get too outraged about the "ripoff" thing when it's just the logical conclusion of the guitar/effects industry's clone aesthetic. if it was OK for everyone and their dog to make Muffs, Rats, Tims, and Klons (not to mention Strats, Jazzmasters, Precision Basses, and various amps) why is Behringer somehow out of line?

I don't know if they're ever going to do a straight Juno 60 clone, because I'm pretty sure the Deepmind started as suped-up clone when Behringer bought the company that was making it. It sounds really similar to my ears, the lfo and envelope behavior is pretty different but the sound palate is pretty similar?

Also, I expect AudioThing to unveil several new software drops, but one thing they've hinted at is a Jen SX1000. It's not exactly the most desirable synth to pay tribute to, but it is somewhat rare. I know Broadcast used it, but it wasn't exactly cutting-edge or experimental for its time. I like AT's stuff, though, so a poly version with randomization and maybe some bonus FX could be useful.

if the expression control comes at the expense of restricting your playing to soft chord swells and arpeggios, lest the volume drop out unintentionally, i'm not seeing any advantage over a whammy bar or expression pedal.
