Yep, Rubberneck is one of the best I've used, maybe only second to the In Limbo II for me personally.

Been on the same search a few months back and I agree with the diffused Rubberneck love. For what it's worth:Used to play a Malekko 616 for years and I loved it.

Also - maybe you're looking for an analog delay that doesn't have bit reduction, but maybe a gain knob that dirties that repeats a bit? Like an EHX Deluxe Memory Boy, maybe?

All this talk about the Rubberneck made me curious. Now I have to ask: How does the effect loop work with 1 jack?

the MM was on my reasonably long, but not insanely so, list of analog delays to check out, but i happened across the rubberneck first and said fuck it, i could spend that time on something way less fun than researching analog delay pedals

Seymour Duncan Deja Vu. It does have a digital side, but you don't have to use it.

I’m a big fan of the 616 - I flipped mine a few years ago and really missed it. Just re-bought another one and I’m totally happy with it.

I really wish I was the sort of person that was willing to throw down for a Rubberneck or a Meet Maude. But I’m probably not that sort of person. I’d been using a DD7 forever and I kind of want both on my board. I like digital delays doing analog emulation a lot but I also really like the real thing.

Had a 616 for a short while, but it messed with my bypassed signal, didn't like the buffer at all.

Anyway, the 'no digital' rule is a shame, there's quite a few digital delays out there that do a REALLY convincing BBD and/or tape ting, but give you a couple digital benefits on top of that.

Having said that, there's plenty of analog options as well. I'm picky when it comes to the color and grit of the repeats, which is why I bought and flipped A TON of delay pedals over the years. One analog delay that can do both warm washy repeats as well as more clear repeats that cut through a loud mix...You'll need one or two extra controls for that, your average 3 knob bbd delay won't cut it imo.

So yeah, in short: Rubberneck. It can be finnicky and unpredictable though, for an analog delay at least. Nothing too intimidating or anything, it's probably just me...But the gain/tone/level controls seem to be really interactive. Especially if you're running something in the effects loop, things can start oscilllating even with the level and repeat controls turned almost completely down. You also can't completely tame it when the gain and tone controls are maxed :idk

Don't let that scare you though, for the money the rubberneck is hard to beat. Don't care too much for the actual 'rubberneck' feature, but the 'regen' thing is fucking awesome.

I'm also still loving my Ibanez ES-2. Don't know if I'd want to rely on it for intensive touring or anything though, and the tap tempo isn't too accurate, but for the money I can't complain. It lacks a tone or gain control, but the repeats sit perfectly in the mix for me, and the oscillation is really controlable.

Also had a Way Huge Echo Puss for a while. Close call, but ended up flipping it in favor of the ES-2. For the money the Echo Puss is nothing special imo, but I guess if you're just after a good basic no frill analog delay and want something more durable and reliable than the ES-2, it's a great sounding option.

That's interesting, I loved it for the exact same reason. The buffer really worked well in my signal chain, and helped a lot to keep things clean without losing low end.

They really are the perfect ones for me, though I do get that some people might want more fancy options in the current year.
