Nah, you'd just need to grow your beard out and get a flannelette shirt (buttoned of course, this isn't 90s Seattle), then you'd be right :thumb:

Better off quitting the band before the trial by public opinion gets too heated.

i'll give Orri that quitting was the right thing to do for Goggi and Jonsi, who shouldn't have to pay for his indiscretions. of course, he'd have been more honorable to not go full Bill Cosby.

last night i saw a friend of mine who's the drummer for JGB, the successor org to the Jerry Garcia Band who were in town for a show. i was wearing my Sigur Ros shirt, and the first thing Pete said after hugging me hello was to point to my shirt and say "what about that guy" and my shoulders collapsed and my neck slumped. it was only then that i realized how heartbroken i am about this. my response to Pete was "yeah, i know...what the fuck is it about men?"

What the fuck is wrong with people? He wasn't convincted of anything. There was a similar situation with Michael Gira...except the 'victim' dropped the issue when it turned out Gira's wife had saved all the letters and emails of unrequited love she had sent him both before and after the event in question.

Believing a woman, because she's a woman and for no other reason, is a very dangerous line of thinking. Believe evidence, not biology.

I remember that whole thing might have done some real damage in the case of Swans, maybe it was just Cincinnati, but the show in 2016 was oddly poor attendance for a venue that routinely has sold out shows.

Here's the thing. False accusations are really rare because accusing someone of sexual assault has a tendency to ruin the lives of both the accused and the accuser. If you're looking to ruin a life, there are much, much more reliable ways of doing it without also tossing yourself under a bus, so it rarely happens. Is it a serious shame when it does? Of course, but it's so rare as to be a pointless crusade.

On the other hand, people get away with sexual assault all the time, and one of the biggest reasons is that women don't come forward for fear nobody will believe them (see life ruining effects of accusing, above). Sexual assault is often difficult to prove, and when survivors aren't believed, it makes it all the less likely others will come forward in the future. In the case of sexual assault, a "healthy sense of skepticism" and the "presumption of innocence" outside a courtroom are enablers for future assaults.

I know it sucks seeing someone's life ruined when you're not certain they deserve it, but sexual assault is a real, demonstrable problem that affects millions of people every year, and it's perpetuated by the failure to believe survivors unconditionally. False accusation is a problem that affects almost nobody. You're picking the wrong side here. I'm sorry, but you just are. Let defense lawyers be the bad guys here, and believe women when they say they've been assaulted.
