So yeah, I think this is the way to go, but you have to have an SLA and an infrastructure that is up to it. And the problem with access anywhere any time is that an SLA that guarantees that is pretty expensive.

True, crashes are going to be the big problem. we are working to get our ERP Systems going in this direction now, and I keep all my work in dropbox so other than ERP work I can work from anywhere.

I do wonder what the power consumption is like in these type of data storage centers.

i woudl say its just more convenient. for exampel isntead of using napster you just stream music. instead of having a tv you just get netflix.

1. What I meant is that while paying bills online and doing other activities definitely have economic/convenience benefits they aren't going to be game changers like solar energy or other technologies.
2. Those are entertainment benefits not structural efficiencies that will give us more time to do more productive activities ... we just value movies/music less

Had a big dose of future yesterday. Went to maccy D's, ordered from a screen and they just brought the food to us. No queue, no interaction with staff. Once robots can cook and deliver the food, it'll be a fast food utopia.

I agree with you to a certain extend, but I have noticed a huge influx of things being pushed at us on almost all platforms. I guess it depends on what you find absurd. For instance, I find it quite absurd that I cannot read a news story (on almost any site anymore) without having ads about random stuff smashed into my face. The forums have gotten bad too. ILF is great because it's stuck a few decades behind in software (LOL), so we don't have that issue as much. If you look at some of the bigger forums though, there's ads almost everywhere. At least the ones I use.

I know you're probably not specifically talking about ads though. It's just the most obnoxious thing that comes to mind for me when surfing the net. Especially since ISP will be able to shove them at you whenever they want, however they want now.






I feel like the internet can be a golden wealth of knowledge at times. As a property manager, it has saved my ass countless times to be able to google something on the fly and be able to figure it out.

For instance, I was running an auger recently to clean out a drain line. I've never done that before and had no idea what I was doing. It seems straight forward right? It does take a certain level of skill though. I googled it, and a site told me what heads to use with the auger, in which order and how fast/slow I ought to take things. I had no idea. I have no plumbing experience, but I learned something and it saved me a few hundred bucks. So right there, it help a ton.

I've done the same thing on many occasions.

I think for the most part you have to take what you want and leave the rest. Then the internet is magical.

It's not all just Porn Hub and Youtube.

true , I stubbornly refuse to click off adds, now that im aware its a money making deal..just one click and they get 5 cents or somecrap...
..and alot of on the spot, needs to be done, "I have no clue", ordeals are executed by "google! baby! how do I install a three prong dryer plug to a 4 without electrocuting myself??" and she tells me lol.

certain sites that i often use are so bad with the pop-up ads that i can't even use them any more. the ones that automatically play video are particularly excruciating.
