It powers on but it's like there's no signal going to the verb. Dry signal comes through, then when I turn the verb up you can hear the springs adjusting but it's like it's not affecting the signal at all... then it starts to feed back. If I do the trick where you go into the left channel and out of the right, which would yield 100% wet in the case of this unit, I just get that weird springy/feedback sound with no dry at all. So basically it seems like something's not connected inside, maybe... I might take a look, despite not being remotely repair-savvy at all.

Yeah, I'd open it up and have a look. I know on the 101 the pans are suspended with springs one over the other, and that system had failed on one. Pretty easy fix.
From your description, it sounds like the [in right -> dry out right/wet out left and vice versa] set up may have carried over to the 202. It will probably take solder to change that, but some of the hifi stuff from that era is wire wrap, which might make it easier for you to bodge something together... if you want to.
Hopefully it's something easy and obvious, mechanical shortcomings happen to springs.
