lol @ $4000 set of fuzz pedals. And I thought the $900 set of 3 Boss pedals was over the top.Snufkino wrote:I always feel like a little worm on a big fuckin hook when I browse the D*A*M forum. This isn't helping. Way too rich for my blood at £750+ a pop, but it's a hell of a project that clearly took a lot of time and effort to source specific components needed to put together 200 authentic MkI's between four people. Easy for some to get sneery about the cork sniffing, but this is fuzz box ground zero.

LOL indeed. But aren't most of ILFers crazy about exclusive and cool things like this? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A lot of things ILF folks are gaga over are pretty reasonably priced from the manufacturer and become expensive because of rarity on the secondhand market. Pricing things to imply exclusivity (for people with 'fuck you money') doesn't carry much traction because almost no one can really afford $2000+ noise boxes or synths or whatever and when you see those they are often completely unique instruments. A Folktek Luminist Garden for a pile of money isn't something you can also get close to with a $50 Behringer pedal. A super exotic handmade fuzz pedal is often about 10% different from a mass production pedal available in every GC. At the very least I feel like the stuff people here want is still stuff that is meant to be played. These pedals will never touch a stage.tremolo3 wrote:LOL indeed. i think thats for the set of the ones that are numbered 1-10, so only ten quad sets will exist, but still

You can get close with about $50 worth of gear, though.whoismarykelly wrote: A Folktek Luminist Garden for a pile of money isn't something you can also get close to with a $50 Behringer pedal.

You can put a contact mic on anything and make noise. I see those instruments as very experience based and a cobbled-together version might make similar sounds but probably won't work as well as the Folktek. There are pretty rough looking copies on Etsy for less I think. That said, I've never laid hands on one because the standard ones are $850 so I don't know if they work as well as the videos show.D.o.S. wrote:You can get close with about $50 worth of gear, though.whoismarykelly wrote: A Folktek Luminist Garden for a pile of money isn't something you can also get close to with a $50 Behringer pedal.

It really depends on how good your box is but generally a delay after a contact mic in the proper enclosure would get you 95% of the way there.
That's more than $50 I grant you, but the example might have been better with a Tocante or something?
Either way you ha! Valid point I just think the LG in particular is a bad example in that it's much closer to a boutique stomp than a unique piece of gear relative to what it is.

I guess my angle was that its a unique piece of gear on the market. There are thousands of fuzz pedals on the market and most of them are only slightly different once one or two other instruments are in the mix. There aren't a bunch of LG substitutes that I know of.D.o.S. wrote:It really depends on how good your box is but generally a delay after a contact mic in the proper enclosure would get you 95% of the way there.

Some of it really is rarity of parts. The Texas Instruments transistors in good quality are rare as shit. Totally custom made cases, and paying attention to all the details, adds up. Also, the stuff that those builders make, tends to go up in price for rarity and collectability. That being said, there's a lot of ways to get a mkI circuit in your life. I got a beautiful Ghost/Black Country mkI in Secret Satan one year. I would hope that it wasn't $800.
There are tons of builders making super accessible and awesome versions of the mkI, like Ghost, Arcane, Basic Audio, etc...if you want a pedal, made expressly for the dealer who originally made these, built to exact replica specs, by builders who's work goes up in value, these are for you. If you want a small, high functioning pedal for your gig board, Basic Audio, Arcane or Ghost, to name just a few, might be your best bet...and yeah...you do hear all the little nuances of each pedal. I could spend days just cycling through fuzz pedals and guitars...
