Olin wrote:I liked Prometheus too, and my constant defence of it has led me to romanticise it a bit. Covenant had the worst pacing I have ever seen and served absolutely no purpose. I wanted a film about Engineers, I got a shitty high budget action film. I won't mention anything specific, but everything about David's character was so sigh inducing and disappointing.
I would go
1. Alien
1.5 (its canon authenticity is disputed and it isn't a film) Alien Isolation
2. Aliens
3. Prometheus
4. Alien 3
5. Alien Resurrection
600000. Alien Covenant.
Games count?

Only isolation counts because it was scarier than any movie.
I agree about the engineers in Prometheus.
20 foot tall fossilized space jockey of unknown origin carrying a cargo hold full of alien eggs (a cargo hold that, according to the novelization of Alien, was larger than the outside of the ship, implying these advanced aliens could fuck with physics and time/space) = mysterious and scary
7-8 foot tall bald pale dudes that made us and may or may not hate us because Jesus = not scary and kinda dumb.
Also Ridley Scott is losing his shit. And this is coming from someone that named his son Ridley.

Oh and Flatliners looks pretty cool. And I'm stoked as fuck for Blade Runner.

I'm sorta tapped out on remakes ... I may skip flatliners unless I hear something interesting ...

Pretty much this. I like the opening.. but once the human things when exploring it turned into a really shitty horror movie without all the things that make a shitty horror movie good [cheese], by the middle of the movie you didn't care about anything other than it being over but then suddenly improbable plot twists and rehashment turned it into a really shitty episode of the Simpsons with goodish cg...

to me the goodness is 1,2,3, AVsP,4Prometheus.. it could have been something new but people don't like new things. over all I find new movies vs old movies is old movies would grow on you more and a lot of the time you didn't like the beginning but by the end they saved it but the newer stuff I find I like the first 30 min and then want to take a nap.

I just never thought the alien movies would become formulaic but that definitely has become the case.

Finally saw Kong: Skull Island. I don't think that people gave this movie a fair shot, it's so good. Really worth a watch, I didn't think that a monster movie reboot in 2017 would be so inspired.
7.5/10. Pretty underrated.
