In England you're usually better off getting a coach instead of a train. They're almost always at least twice as cheap and you'll get to see a bit more of the country too. Also buy an Oystercard in London, it's worth it even for a day.

Spoke to a friend who recently spent 40 days in Europe, he did Busabout and spoke pretty highly of it. Seems like a super convenient way to getting around.

Personally, I would say scratch Brussels AND Amsterdam and combine Rotterdam & Antwerp instead. And Berlin is a top notch suggestion; I go every year.
Also; combining the UK with mainland Europe seems like a bad idea (lots of time spent commuting) if you're 'only' gonna be travelling for 10 days.

But really, it all boils down on what you like to do. Keep in mind that it's winter around NYE so minor cities will not be very lively outside.

plan is now to be in Zurich a day, drive to Milan for a few days, then to Genoa for a few days, 4-5 days in Paris, then stop at Montreaux the day before flying home. Montreaux has some connection to Freddie Mercury i think? dunno. my grrL has the hugest lady boner for everything Queen and David Bowie related. i gets them mixed UP.

Go to Israel then. You’ll experience all the douche bag you can handle there. Despite that, I’d like to go back.

In France I'd go to Bordeaux, Arcachon and Saint Emillion.
And in Italy I'd go to Bologna or Florence and Fiumalbo (Appenine Mountains, at the brink of Emilia Romagna and Tuscany).

Bordeaux has great flair, plus it has the wine and food.
Nearby you have the amazing beach of Arcachon where you can get the best oysters and mussels ever and the beautiful old town of Saint Emilion with loads of renown wineries.

In Italy some of the best food and most laid back athmosphere to be found is in the Emilia Romagna and Tuscany regions.
Basically, you haven't really been in Italy if you haven't been to this region yet (especially Tuscany is known as such).
If you would like to have something more north then I would suggest the Piemonte region with the Alps and also beautiful wineries and delicious food supposedly (haven't been there myself), forget about Milan.

nice! will definitely keep those spots in mind for next trip out there, but we've already booked hotels and Air BnB's. we're pretty locked into Zurich then Milan then Genoa then France.

we'll look at getting to Bordeaux, Arcachon and/or Saint Emillion while we're France-side.

i spent 2 weeks in Milan when i was younger. dug it.
