Like I will look at the current rate between USD and yen (or whatever) and when I go to checkout/pay, my dollar is worth 5% less on PayPal....Then, if I get a refund, it happens again (because they do the same thing to the refunder)...A transaction paid in USD, should be refunded in USD, not yen.

They never update their conversion rates and keep them at whatever is beneficial to them...It sucks.

I know mine is a different problem...But I think part of the rate fixing has to do with legalities and money moving. PayPal makes sending money back and forth with no direction too easy and I guess in theory you could make some money just transferring between accounts with exchange rates...At least that's the only reason I can think of(preventing market play and creative laundry).

Maybe it depends if friends/family or services?
Oh fuck yes, theyre skimming more than just the cream off the top.

I just spent 2 hours on the phone arguing with PayPal... and they cannot do anything about it.

So I have to find another solution... I wont be able to sell pedals in the B/S/T at a good price if I'm loosing 5 to 10$ each transaction.
PayPal suck. :grumpy:

lol

I am really sorry to hear this.

Aside from them grinding you on currency, I have a problem with the whole trust thing. Thank goodness for forums like this where at least someone like me (who has never bought or sold) has left some sort of personality trail. But when someone emails your Craigslist ad and wants to ship, I dunno.. gift and they can't trust ME, regular and they might claim some sort of damage..

One issue is the conversion rates can change rapidly. When I was in Israel, I had to look them up on the internet before going to the bank to convert because they would lie. They did change daily, but not as bad as they said.

Paypal could most likely get in some serious legal trouble if they are lying about the conversion rate. There's most likely some kind of non reported income situation going there as it's outright theft.

Google wallet is supposed to be way better, I just haven't made the jump.

As far as selling. If it's on ILF, try to sell to bros and ask for the extra if you get fucked on it. I'm sure most would be ok with that. I know I would.

I can't think of a more viable solution as Paypal has cornered the market for the last what, decade or so?

I've had similar issues when sending and receiving. I've sold a lot recently, all to people in the US, and got all the funds in Canadian. And recently I sent someone money in USD, but they received less than they should of because of the weird conversion issues.
