BossMann73 wrote:Wow, just got an old cheapo Taiwan made Metal Zone for $22 bucks off Reverb. As soon as I fired it up I thought it sounded very similar to my Mantic Vitriol. Now, don't get me wrong, I love the Vitriol and thought it had a very unique sound, but I'm shocked my cheapo MT-2 not only sounds exactly like it, but has additional mids control. I thought I'd do a search to see if anybody else had this observation and I found this quote................

"I'm still quite amused that this pedal that's getting so much love in the "boutique" community (Juan Alderete is a big fan) is functionally no different than the Metal Zone/HM-2 that everybody seems to hate... show's you what a well-tuned hype-machine can do."

Quoted so I don't have to go back and forth.

Soooooooooooooo what's your point exactly? I mean in being a member here. Is your purpose to piss on all boutique effects and try to convince us to not like them? I mean, you realize this site is owned and run by a boutique pedal builder right? So the sole purpose of it is to talk about that type of gear.

If you don't like it, that's cool man! It's totally up to you what you use or dig. Same goes for anyone else though.

Also, almost all pedals, especially dirt, are derived from some other pedal. I'm not surprised if the Manic came from an HM2 or Metal Zone. They did it better regardless. They also did the Meatbox better IMO.

So to each their own, but I advise caution with going this route sir. Not a threat, just a general nicety if you want to be a member, contribute and not get banned down the road. We don't ban many members, but it happens when shit gets stirred up enough.

Isn't the vitriol a modified DOD Death Metal?

From what little I could glean online, the answer is yes although I have heard it is also possibly a modded DOD 250. who knows? The only thing I remember Mantic copping to is that the Vitriol is based on an old DOD pedal. Having only an MT-2 to compare it to at the moment, the two are virtually indistinguishable from eachother, with the MT-2 edging out the Mantic due to the mids control. I love my Mantic, but it always seems to sit underneath a live mix rather than poke thru. The MT-2 takes care of that. It really is uncanny how much the two sound alike.

Yeah, but a P Bass and an EB-0 sound exactly the same too.

I don't think you have a license for that quote.

You're a fool to buy a distortion pedal in the first place, so the joke's on you. The battle jacket of the pedal world.

As requested. Check out track 1 "Mantic Vs MT-2" at the link below. I didn't write which was which because I didn't want that to cloud judgement in any way. And I tried very hard to match eq's, distortion levels and volume levels, but obviously couldn't get the two exact because of the mid controls on the MT-2.

Yeah that's definitely very close, thank you!

I'm sure we should just keep hassling this dude for actually providing content and a good observation. That seems pretty fucking legit and not at all the benchmark of a bunch of knuckle-dragging Cro Magnons.
