When I was 18, I started working at an environmental thing to 'clean up the water' in the great lakes region. Thing was super pyramid-y; ziggurat scheme. Basically only existed to perpetuate itself, which is not really the idea with a non-profit environmental agency (or so I thought). Went door-to-door asking for money with zero training or information. All of the money went to the senior staff...if you cleared $180/day, you made $35 of it back. Usually six hours on your feet, two to three in the car to get to increasingly remote and depressed locations.

I did that for four days and checked out.

Door-to-door fundraising is Hell. Especially during Midwestern winters.
