Did I say that? It's true though. I don't really trust it with things I can't replace. I have a server with a bunch of storage to spare, let me see if I can set up a subdomain with owncloud. That was awesome for collaboration. Everyone gets an account and you can make things private, public, or shared with only some other users.

I can't think of much difference between google drive and drop box for sharing files, except you get 15gb free with google drive and you can create shared folders there as well.

I'm interested! I play guitar, bass, banjo, sing (not incredibly well...), keyboards (also not great!) and have a cool drum machine.

I use reaper, dropbox has always worked OK for me for sharing.

How would we manage the writing process? That seems the more complicated bit

I can also sing or indeed scream etc although I would have to go to my mates studio for that.

In terms of writing I'm pretty bad at it although if you give me a song title I can Likley just write up a bunch of lyrics.

I fucking love writing poetry! We can multiple people singing or fuck alternate. Whatever. The sky is the limit here!!

I'm trying to get my brother on board too. He has a full studio, with all the fancy expensive shit. Good mics, computer, interfaces, keyboards, programs etc. I'll post pictures next time I go over.

I'd show you guys something we made together, but it may offend a few people...I made a homosexual joke in it, but I just thought it was funny for the song. We redid David Bowie's Let's Dance. It's has video too. I mean, I could post it if you guys want...LOL

Two things to note though. It was for my sister birthday and I have no idea how to post it because it's in dropbox. LOL. Excane is the only person who's seen it and he thought it was hilarious.

Well fine then!! Be that way!!!!!!

Just so you know the homosexual joke I made was instead of saying "let's dance", I say "I'm gay for you in a brotherly way". Which makes no sense. LOL!!!

Also I'm fucking pumped! Let's do this shit!!

I'm down for this but I have no way of recording at present.
Gonna motivate me to fix that.
If this is an ongoing project I'd like to contribute my shittiness at some point when I'm capable.
High five for shitty!

I play a lot of drums. Not saying I'm as good as any of these people, but I pattern a style after Jon Theodore, Mark Giuliani, Dave King, and electronic stuff. I'd be down to contribute/share. I play guitar, fretless bass, program modular synths and fake my way through banjo, too.

This is how I should have described my banjo playing

Talked to my brother today and he's interested.

He did make a suggestion, which I hadn't' thought about. If we do this, it would make sense for all instruments to be to the same beat per minute. So perhaps if you use a metronome you could do it that way? It's not going to be perfect, but for putting a music file together it would sound better.

I mean -- the writing part is the trickiest bit. Somebody should start some place? Guitar or bass or whatever.

I think either drums or guitar would be the best. It's much easier IMO to play bass to one of those, but sometimes hard to come up with a good bass line that you can work around. If someone is good at that though, perfect!!

I was talking about something similar to this at work today. I work in a coffee shop, so everyone is a musician or something and always wants to get together and do stuff but it never happens. I was like, what if we just do this open source style, as in I upload skeleton of a song on guitar, and people can add to it as they see fit. Seems like the only realistic way. I'm pretty stoked on the idea, assuming people actually get down with it and contribute. I have a handful of little chord progressions with melodies, but I've hit a creative block with them. I plan on recording them in somewhat a song format, meaning structured into verse and chorus parts. Then people can add to them as they please or leave them alone.

I'm unsure the best way to do this though. Seems like maybe posting them to soundcloud so that people can get a quick listen, with a link to the dropbox where they can download the files and add to them?
