Exactly.
Also, Koalas aren't bears, they're marsupials.
And they stink, are grumpy and have chlamydia, a lot of them.

Uncle Lyptus is the rich guy that kept showing up to your birthday parties as a kid and offering your dad cash to go down the road to the pub while he played twister with all the kids.

Eucalyptus is a species of trees indigenous to Australia.

No.
We stuck them all up the arses of French backpackers before we fucked them off into international waters as a warning to the English.

Backpack through Australia, come back with a free iPhone. Sounds like you're really bad at geopolitics to me.

I mean you guys are environmentally concerned far right members of the commonwealth, what would we visit anyways?

Environmentally unconcerned, I think you'll find.

The far right thing exists on a bell curve, as I'm sure it does most places.
As age and/or socioeconomic resources increase, the movement towards conservative ideals lessens, and then increases again at a certain threshold.

I'm not entirely sure why you visit, but you do it in droves.
Much like you have basically turned South-East Asia into a hive for trust fund hippie drug dealers who think they're doing something new.
You can't spit in Phuket without hitting some hideously tanned Eurotrash that thinks dreadlocks and tribal tattoos are still fucking cool.

Side note: sacred geometry blackwork is the new tribal tattoo.

%y point is that more or less the local stance on immigration has been justified by your elected officials as a way to be conscious of a nature that needs protecting and in which they refuse to expand. Which I think is a claver way to say "we"re xenophobic".

Well, it gets a bit sticky with the ageing population who, by and large, are.
After our involvement in the Pacific Theatre, Korea, Vietnam, the various interventions in Thiland, Malaysia, (now) East Timor and being raised under a white Australia policy put in place by pre-Federation English aristocrats (which continues today) and the general climate of fear that and its ensuing propaganda creates, you can sort of see how they would think that way.
The majority of Australians under say, about 55, though, can then fall into one of two categories, mostly.
a) "I personally know someone(s) from a non-anglo culture as most Australians have a muti-cultural background, and they're alright"
or
b)"Fuck all them towel-heads/chinks/blacks/whatever-slur-you-want-here because my farkin dad said so, and he's a farkin champ because he farked me mum and then pissed off to sell speed out of his ute. WHAT A FARKIN LEGEND I GOT NO TEEF!"

So, sadly, the politicians pander to this, and think its a good way to distract us all from the fact they have created no new policies in over 20 years and cannot keep up with the rest of the world.
So, yes, we are xenophobic.
But, no, I don't think we really want to be, we're just told we need to be by assholes in suits that listen to the decrepit and uneducated.
Which, given our history of working class mass education, can again be either end of the age/socioeconomic curve.

You'll find life in the colonies is a lot more complicated than the continent.
We are basically a really big social experiment.

Which brings back to my initial point. Why would backpackers visit in the first place?

All joking aside, Goroth has some good points on this because he grew up in Australia before becoming a gooped Swede.
