I have two problems with this, baring you live in the middle of nowhere:

1.
I wish cats had to be tagged and licenced like dogs do. If you're going to have a pet, take care of it. Oftentimes if it's roaming the neighborhood, its either causing someone else grief or in danger of being hit by a car.

2.
I live in Arizona, and there are way too many things that could eat them...coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, eagles, hawks, etc. My cats are indoors only.

I don't mean to come off as self-righteous or anything, but I wouldn't want my cats pooping in someone else's yard, and it would break my heart to have them hit by a car or eaten. Or shot...some people are cruel. That said, if you live on a farm or something, semi-stray barn cats to keep the rats at bay are fine. But mine are pets as opposed to pest control.

I love dogs but I'm a cat person. Less of a pain in the ass, more attitude. Plus they shit in a box and clean themselves. Most of the time.

Also, dogs have to be tagged and licensed in AZ? That some kind of Joe Arpaio crackdown shit radiating into the pet sector?

I mean, I assume so? I don't have a dog so I can't say for sure, but growing up in Michigan they did, but that also could have been because my folks were AKC breeders.

But my point was, if you own a dog, big or small, you don't (or shouldn't) let it roam the neighborhood. I feel it should be the same for cats. There will always be stray dogs and cats, but I've never liked the idea of letting a pet out and they'll come back when they feel like it.

My cat and I are civil after 6 or so years of human-feline negotiations.
She is great for patting until she decides she's had enough and razor blades my fucking hand.

I'm a dog person whose wife got a cat while we were waiting to plan for a kid.
Then she fell pregnant by accident.

Dogs smell like "wet dog smell" all the time.

I'm a cat person who owns three dogs (allergic GF). That's why we got whippets. Sighthounds are the closest you'll ever get to a feline without actually getting one. Most sighthounds simply don't give a fuck and have a ton of cat-like traits, yet they retain some dogness. They're the best of both worlds.

Lhasa Apsos are like that as well. Except they don't think they are people, they know.

I don't understand you guys who say cats are low-maintenance, though. A dog will eventually chill and lay down somewhere. Cats are fucking obnoxious attention whores. You can't do shit without a cat needing to be on whatever surface you're messing with. If there is a thing, a cat will be on it.
