That's why I mix and master on speakers in my untreated bedroom and check my work on headphones.

Options are good. I say listen as many ways as possible to hear how the mix varies between them.
My uncle used to joke about putting his old 95 Civic coupe (which later became my first car) in his studio for final listening tests. It only had the stock bare-bones Honda tape deck with 2 door coaxial speakers, low power... but its acoustics gave you a shockingly balanced front of house perspective. If a mix sounded good on them it was all but guaranteed to sound good on anything. Love those mid 90s Civics.

I've been using Dynaudio BM5As for a long time, and they've never disappointed me. I've thought about upgrading a couple of times, but have always decided that these are suiting me just fine and I'll probably keep them until something goes wrong or they just wear out. Super happy customer.

I use the JBL LSR305s. They really are amazing. But I also have set up + treated my room for mixing based around the monitor placement. Most importantly, I know the speakers so I know how mixes should sound like on them. You have to get used to your speakers, listen to them and learn them.

Placement is key. You can have $5,000 monitors and get shitty mixes out of them if ur room is creating all kinds of crazy frequencies.

Any personal reviews of Yamaha HS8 speakers here? Internet consensus seems to be that they're awesome and give a really flat response so you hear what you should here which gives me a mixing boner.

yeah...they are the best sounding monitors you can get off the shelf at guitar center imo. i went with the hs7's because i thought the 8's might be a bit too big for my space.

I personally hate them for making my ears bleed with unnecessarily aggressive high end.

This is how I've received Yamaha tweeters since the 90s. NS-10s are an exception. But the Kappa, mobile audio series was notoriously icepick bright...even with their own crossover networks. Unlistenable, unbearable, unappealing. Shallow mounting depth be damned. Beautiful midrange & bass drivers though

I have the Yamaha MSP7s. I love them, very ns10 like. The point of Yamaha monitors and headphones tends to not be making them super flat, but emphasize the things we don't usually listen to like harshness of the high end.

I would get them over the HS8s in a heartbeat, Tighter response. The only real reason to go with the HS8 over it is if you really need that additional volume.

Honestly I could probably use 5s or 7s. I'll have to do some more research between MSP and HS.

I use a pair of old Yamaha NS-1000m, and they too can go into uncomfortable to live with when paired with certain gear - but with the right supporting gear the harshness on top reverts to detail, and it's to die for.

No experience with the new stuff, these quenched my thirst for better monitors 20 some odd years ago.. but I find it funny to be reading the same sort of opinions about their wares.

Um excuse me I only take advice from folks who can get an 8 from Pitchfork. If I wanted to get a 7 I'd ask you.
