Oh yeah. It'd be a shame to cover up wood that looks like this.

I have a prefab maple neck sitting around that I'll probably use for it. -edit- I lied. It got my rosewood neck.

Still have a few coats of shellac to go, but it's getting close.

So, the bridge pickup is a Teisco gold foil that I pulled out of a guitar that will serve much better as a wall decoration than it did as an instrument due to some weird neck wavy-ness. I couldn't sleep last night, and the idea to use that pickup in this guitar struck me around 4 AM. It sounded nice in its original guitar, but holy sweet mother of fuzz, it sounds ridiculous in this guitar. It blends very well with the firebird neck pickup, it's microphonic in all the right ways, isn't too noisy, isn't too bright.

The guitar body itself is a great weight. Not too light, not too heavy, nicely resonant unplugged, sounds great plugged in. I'm happy. It's been a while since I got my hands on a guitar that speaks to me like this one.

When I started working on this body, I intended to sell it at the store since it was made from some wood that used to be a vertical support for the floor joists, but my old mahogany tele body has been my experiment platform and was full of extra holes and had developed a crack through the treble side screw holes in the neck pocket that I couldn't get stabilized, so I figured this would be a suitable replacement. Fortunately, I have enough wood to make another body, and one of my coworkers wants a Tele. Soooo, I'll be building another one soon.

If I can wake up at a reasonable hour tomorrow, I'll try to record some quick and shitty iphone video to show off the sounds. Seriously, this goldfoil pickup is one of the best pickups I've used. It is so open and uncompressed sounding. I'm primarily a fingerpicker and play a lot of slide, and having something this dynamic and microphonic works so well with my playing style. And the middle position makes my ear pussies so goddamn moist. Mmmm. It's like a Danelectro lipstick pickup with extra balls.

And since this got the solid rosewood neck that i made a few months ago, with no truss rod, and has a very nicely fitting neck pocket, the whole body and neck resonate in a really pleasant way when it's played. It's like playing a nice acoustic guitar where you can feel every note.

Yeah, I was gonna ask how that gold foil sounded in the bridge. :snax:
