Same.

I do stream a lot from Spotify premium though.

Have you tried using another music player on your phone?
I'll shill for CanOpener any day. So much nicer EQ options than the stock music app.

I dropped Apple Music after it started replacing albums I had bought through iTunes with DRM protected files that wouldn't play in CanOpener.

The only reason why I use Spotify is because iTunes is the most frustrating music file player I've ever used. It used to be basic and simple and intuitive?

I have a Dropbox account that I use to backup all my major shit. I thought it kept all that shit on my hard drive too, though. Does it? I don't like the idea of a cloud having all my shit without it being elsewhere. I'm stupid at computer.

Not the best at this but the way I used dropbox is that I used to back up certain folders to it (like important stuff for thesis research etc) and it was still on my computer but also backed up in DB. I think that's how it works as a rule

I got rid of my desktop pc last year and just run a 2012 macbook through external speakers/screen/keyboard and mouse, and I've got a windows 7 bootcamp partition for reaper and other windows-necessary programs. I've never used itunes ever, because the whole nature of 'let us do the work' is counter to everything I like in a computer. I use vlc instead. I upgraded to El Capitan two weeks ago from Maverick and I regret it - looks worse imo.

Itunes Music is an abomination but I still quite like Itunes (the software) as an audio player. I seem to be in the minority though, and I might have missed better applications. Last time I had to choose it was between Winamp and Itunes and Itunes clearly won. Are there other good music players with library/playlist management on Windows now ?

I subscribed to Apple Music, back when it was called iTunes Match, I think in 2012.

I paid $27.99 CAD for one year of service.

I found it pretty much useless for my needs and did not renew it for a second year.

My primary issue was that it had a 25,000-MP3 cap, which is about 75% of my collection at this point.

My secondary issue was that it was much more troublesome to use than anticipated; downloading songs to listen offline took forever and was less useful than simply using a USB.

Let it be known that I am an avid iTunes user, and simply can't imagine using any other program to organize my files.

It's always been a terrible piece of bloatware on PC.

Between that and their predatory tactics vs. musicians (let's charge label royalties for sales *and* remove any control over anything, but don't do anything but host a file and do the card processing)....they'll never get a dime from me.

I have one album listed on iTunes these days and that's because I found somebody willing to do put it up for no money upfront on my end - which is another insane part of Apple's ecosystem.

Yes I use BBE's sonic maximizer app as my main music player.

I love foobar so would recommend giving it a look. I'm sure lots of people aren't as well suited to it though.
Since I've gotten into the habit of managing my library manually without going through a program like itunes everything has been much smoother. Having 40,000 songs there i do not want all my tagging and cover art stored in an indecipherable mess of files that will probably be totally useless sometime in the future.
Can still sync to ipods etc with foobar too. Nowhere near as user-friendly as itunes but you can add or get rid of any feature or component you want. Like, if i feel like putting a flanger on the audio output, it will let me do that. Can itunes flange? I don't fucking think so.

Click bait and user error is terrifying.
