wow. why?
Combination of typical band frustrations (egos, scheduling, laziness) and the realization that my interest and enjoyment of making music is more about exploring sounds and ideas in my spare time than writing songs or recording albums. Taking away the pressure to "produce" (which I used to beat myself up about a lot) I enjoy it all so much more.

Yeah. I play all the instruments I would like to have in a band, and I play the way I like, so...no great desire to be in a band. It is still fun to get real loud with other folks, but not with the pressure of producing anything specific.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

Echoing those sentiments: Making music with people in real time is fucking awesome... and mostly everything else about being in a band is not really my bag.

Although I was very much blown away by Mirrors for Psychic Warfare's live performance, which has rekindled some ideas about doing some of my stuff live. Just ideas, though, because setting up breaking down set times loading unloading playing to five people is a drag.

Voted yes but unsure. I've been in bands and it was always a horrible experience for me, for reasons mentioned above and me being a controlling wanker.
Instead learned to do everything myself, or at least as much as I can, so the world of drum machines and loops is where I am now. I don't know if you can be a band when it's just you?

In a band with some longtime friends, been playing and recording in the same house/studio-under-construction for almost ten years now, never toured, never released a record.

I love making noise at high volumes and all that, switching instruments and playing with different people (we're sorta more a musical collective than a 'band') but for various reasons we never got our shit together for long enough to make a proper release or do shows. Both me and the other 'permanent' guitarist/bassist are hermit pedal guys who just make stuff for our own enjoyment/therapy. Maybe some day a thing will come of it.

this thread confirmed a little idea I've had for a while: if you're not in a band with homies, then it's going to be a bad time

totally get the pressure to produce kind of thing. weird reading those sentiments tho cause I lose sleep over stupid shit like chord progressions and riff transitions
i'm glad i can call you a friend. even if i'll never see you again

Does making music in my bedroom with a friend, recording it and sending it to the internet count as a band? And sending files back and forth to record music with other friends?

Bands are a huge downer for me. Never going back to that. I remember when I started playing over a decade ago (2003 IIRC). A lot of my time was spend towards finding and "recruiting" the right people to form the right band. And then working my ass off to bring them together in the same practice space for a couple hours at least once a week. All I got after about a decade with repeating that process was frustration. It NEVER worked.

Actually, getting fired of my last band was pretty much what I needed. That was right about when my buddy in Etherealness and I started making music together "for fun". That was back in 2012 and in never looked back. I'm much happier in making music now. Plus he's a good dude. When we hit bumps in our process, things get resolved easily, through talking. We're over 4 years into it, have 7 releases behind us, and I don't see it stopping unless life gets in the way.

All the bands I've been in have been proggy jazzy space whatever with ample room for improv. I think that helps.

Now I play with Kent. So, yeah, we have fun and make stuff we think is cool. Band mechanics doesn't have to be more complicated than that.

Wørd. I think we sound and play differently every time. And if one of us goofs (usually me), we just go with the goof. Let the goof guide us. Not taking it too seriously, having room to improv and enjoying myself every second is new to me in a band context (I've played in six band so far, currently in two)

I haven't been out of a band for twenty years now. They've all had a total of no success. I love playing in bands so who cares.

I play bass and it's hard to find a band. I think it's because I don't know exactly what I want. I'm in a band and we don't gig enough, and the other guys are semi-retirees. I need another band to help me through the week

sure, if you're producing, i'd say...
though i know that can be argued. like noise acts producing noise...
i'm friends w/ a guy who lives off touring as a one-man-band though.

I did quit a band once because of personality issues. We got along fine, but they were both older dudes with issues. Kinda sucked the fun out of it.
