Islam needs a reformation.
Agreed.

Well, it's going through one now... or close. But, you know, "The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity."

Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Sam Harris, Reza Aslan have all written good books about what needs to happen.

Aslan's theory was that we see the narrative as West vs. Islam, but it's actually Islam vs. Islam, and we're the collateral damage... must as during the Crusades and the Christian Reformation, the Islamic world found themselves caught up in our wars.

Or just with West. Like the cardinal direction. I'd like to propose a three point directional system.

But seriously, this thread title doesn't mention the metro bombing too. TS, you are a terrible person and should feel bad for sharing your condolences for one thing but not other thing. Clearly my response of outrage and passive-aggresive social media posts are appropriate and isn't unfairly projecting some really stupid and petty attitude onto your well-meaning sentiment.

My colleague left on monday for a Business Trip to Brüssel and Said "perhaps i will loose an arm or a leg with this terrorism". He meant it as a joke of course.
Tuesday i was hoping that nothing happenec to him.
Thursday we had a Meeting and told me, that he got off the Metro to Walk the Last 5 Kilometers because he thinks he is too fat. What he isn't BTW. That saved his life. He would have been at the metro station bombing.

Shit is real.

Yeah, Aslan isn't a reformer.

I'm listening to Hirsi Ali's "Heretic" right now on audio book. FYI: Audible was offering a free trial where you get two books for free.

People seem to want things to be as simple as possible, and thus all kinds of binaries and dichotomies serve to help. So a big one is the big bad West/Colonialism vs the Oppressed. While its certainly true colonialism has caused many ills in the world, and the middle east, it's not to perpetually blame. The more left-leaning view is to say all things terrorism are because of the west and colonialism.

This shit is so fucking sad. People dying for no reason, and hate spreading across the world. Horrible. Glad to hear your friend made it out safely.

He tries to argue that the issues with terrorism aren't religious but political - it's the west, colonialism, etc. Religious texts are just metaphorical, etc. How can you reform something if you can't say that which needs reforming isn't the problem - or bears responsibility, to varying degrees.

Eat my shit and die.
