The trick is to not take it too seriously but still play it straight. Silliness kills.

I did a short campaign recently for the first time with some friends and we had LOADS OF FUN. Even the guys who started off a little skeptical enjoyed themselves. I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you think you'd be interested.

I played with a group for awhile and it was a lot of fun because we didn't take it too seriously. We were all basically noobs and were learning the game (and our character's) mechanics as we went. Also good food, fantasy soundtracks, and drinking.
My character was a chaotic good wilden (essentially tree folk) ranger.

I think this's supposed to be fantasy. So, not like your real life.

I played in an unofficial and very arbitrary way with friends. I was dungeon master but also had a character in one game who was just a giant, immovable pile of trash (literally). I gave a couple of my friends the quest to go to Taco Bell and somehow two of them ended up getting executed in prison but one escaped because he was a sentient kite with laser eyes.
I'm much more a fan of get drunk and make everything up on the spot 'D&D.' It's been a while since the last time I played. I think the crew consisted of a ghost bike with no owner, a human-sized pepper and rock who was a skilled sword fighter. They then had to deal with a skeleton army invasion on Halloween and did not do so well, they ended up holed up in a Perkins (it's like an IHOP) hoping to get the bike back because he was being scrapped for parts.

Sadly, I didn't start hailing Satan or listening to loads of extreme metal tho.
Yeah but I already do those things so it works out!
Lamentations of the Flame Princess looks sick as fuck tho
Beyond the veil of reality, beyond the influence of manipulating politicians, greedy merchants, iron-handed clergy, and the broken masses that toil for their benefit, echoes of other realms call to those bold enough, and desperate enough, to escape the oppression of mundane life...
Echoes of the Realms of Fuzz? lol

Shut up, you know you want this.
[puts on my +12 corset of seduction]

Flaunting around that you've got a +12 anything isn't a smart move when your at the tavern.

Could help with the beer wenches, though.
"Hey there mamma, ever levelled up on a +12 kinda guy before?"

True but I'm sure they'll either poison your mead or stick a dagger up under your ribs. These are people who work hard all day to bring home a copper and your swinging a bag of platinum around wtf.
