I don't really try. Someone being a scumbag makes it damn near impossible for me to enjoy their art. But really, why bother? It's impossible to hear all the good music in the world before you die, so why not try something new instead of fucking with the Swans?

The internet brigade/pile-on culture we have right now is pretty scary.

Hopefully this doesn't delay the release of their new album in May.

My thinking as well. On a less important note but supporting this logic, one of my favorite things about our media/content crazy society is that we have loads of interviews and shit like that of pretty much everyone, so it's easy to find an artist and get really about them. Like even Aen, for instance. I (regretfully) didn't know he made music until I had watched a bunch of his youtubes looking at pedal demos. I really appreciate the total package element of people and their music.

Obviously, no judgement if you don't care at all and just compartmentalize your brain, but I don't see a reason to do that and I'm bad at it. :idk:

Edited to remove a non-sequitur

90% of the time when I first listen to a band it's just due to the music i want to know and later I find out of other issues. But actively seeking out an artist basically because of the crimes commited I've never done. But when I find out about said crimes, it doesn't change my first impressions on the music to begin with. So it's not about compartmentalizing a brain

Man this is really fucking a lot more complicated than I took time to process. I have friends that are personally connected to both sides of the issue that i respect greatly and wouldn't ever want to shit on but i honestly can't believe that MG would do something like this.

The whole thing about "taking sides" is a bit odd too. As mentioned earlier, there really isn't a better side as far as I'm concerned, whichever one of them is telling the truth renders the other one pretty damn disgusting. The timing of this (just before his tour/new album/arguable peak of his fame) seems a bit odd, and under a skeptical eye one could argue it's cashing in on the whole Kesha thing.

Idk, I don't want to just defend Gira because he's made some great songs, I'd still like his songs either way tbh, art is art made by artists and artists are disgusting almost all the time (hyperbole included, please don't take that seriously) and I really wouldn't say his actions devalue his enormously prolific contribution to art. It would be nice to believe that a female wasn't raped for something like this, and it would be downright satisfying to watch the swirl of condemnation that the internet has provided start spinning counterclockwise after finding out the truth.

Also, re his wife's statement: why not just start with the proof she claims to have on hand and tidy the whole mess up on the spot?

I would assume that there are other factors influencing the release of that material (legal advice, perhaps?)

It's possible. it honestly depends on the individual. I can listen to murders, rapists, women beaters, and arsonists without any judgement on the music. That's me, it's totally different for anyone else and a lot of people can't seen to understand that.
Makes sense to me.

I always err on the side of believing the accuser, unless there is some *drastic* reason for reasonable doubt. Because it often seems that the entire culture I live in tends to do the opposite.

Ive reached out to some friends that are close to both sides of the issue. Its my belief that Larkin came forward as a result of the support and attention Megan from Couch Slut received when she disclosed the story of what happened between herself and Andy from Luminous Vault. Everyone I have talked to echoed the strained nature of Larkins relationship with Michael, whether they took her side or not.

My conclusion is to stand by Michael and Jennifer. I think this is bullshit and an attempt to discredit Michael by riding on the coattails of a genuine case of sexual misconduct.
