Eh, it isn't such a distinct thing though...holding a vow of pedge officially is kinda obstructive to the gear trade. I've already culled the small whim buys (and flavors of the month...a few pedals over the last year have fixed me of that). Plus, if I flip a few things (not gear), I have pretty much all my goals...eh

I guess what I am saying is that a vow of pedge can prevent getting to the ultimate dream or something...like if a 1200s or something came up in LA for 700, I'd be all over that (I mean there was a sentura or something for like 300..didn't get the call in fast enough)...then I could flip or keep (maybe fixing my plan for the Model T)...no reason to be officially out of gear buying because of some ideology.
Trading is part of getting to where you want to go....
And I accomplished most of my long term goals in 2015 in the pedal world...so not much really interests me as much...but at least I know my buying power and what to hold out for. But if a mutron III came up for 250, I ain't going to let my long term goals get in my way.
Mind you, this might be different if more of the stuff I was into was retail...but mostly into vintage stuff these days.
I dunno, to each their own I guess. I think part of it is just what you want out of your gear...if it is a totally functional thing for one tone, and you found it, that's cool. But I kinda like to just see what everything is about and keep what I like. The trade is part of the fun (though I don't play in a band, write songs or anything...just mess around).
Plus I can cut other things out of my life if need be to fund stuff haha...don't really need to buy records or something if I really want an amp...but yea, I guess in some ways we all have to cut back in some way to make things happen.
Totally not trying to sound contrarian or start anything...just thinking about how and where I am in the spectrum of gear hoarding haha.

We made a contest out of it at TB/BT. March Madness Moratorium is what we called it (MMM). It started March 1st. I lasted 26 days. The last two holdouts just declared a tie last week. We all bet 30$ on it. It was a really bad decision. I ordered like 10 pedals before the March 1st midnight deadline since we were allowed. As soon as I dropped out I bought a bunch of pedals and I stayed on a pedal buying spree since.
I may try to limit myself to owning an arbitrary number of pedals this year. Like maybe 120 pedals maximum.

Yea, that's kinda what I do...like if it has sat in a box for a long long time, it will go...usually around 80 or so around at any given time.
I mean, I probably have 35 in seppuku and LAL alone, and those aren't going anywhere haha.
Kinda the way I look at it is I know certain things are popular...have an opportunity to get it. Someone else has a pedal I want and if I didn't gel with the popular one, I'll trade for the one off my long time list. A good example was I had a compressor...didn't really care about it (just ended up with it somehow), traded it for an octave pedal I wanted to try (didn't care for it) and dude wanted the compressor. Traded the octave pedal for a foxx tone machine clone...worked out pretty well, everyone is happy. Some people only trade too....like I had a snazzy miniark, wasn't using it, traded it for something+cash I really wanted knowing they were in demand (the snazzy). If I wouldn't of fronted the bill for the snazzy a few months earlier, I wouldn't have gotten the pedal I was looking for...

We're building a house, so that's keeping me pedge, regardless of whether or not I want to be.
My life priorities are also:
1) clear credit card
2) get vasectomy
3)finish my tattoo
Then I move onto non gear goals:
1) get more tattoos
2) save for a bike. My wife is slowly caving on allowing me to get a motorbike, so I'm gonna try and wear her down. Can't not take advantage of this window while its open
Then my gear priorities are:
1) build a 4x12
2) get a Science 100w
3) new delay, probably something basic but still kinda cool like a boss re-20
4) Maybe build a guitar body and finish a project.
If I can tick off even a couple of these ill be happy.

this is probably much more likely to happen than staying pedge....
2016 will be the twofold approach of getting more serious/selective about what I do, but also have more fun with it,
so I wanna move some air!
1 Bass Rig that doubles for Guitarduty, probably 2x10 + 2x15?
1 Drum Kit with at least 24" Bass Drum (+ possibly a tiny jungle kit)
1 4046-M
1 DITTOx2
(I might have to add 1 House to fit all this to the List...

)

If you can't go a month without buying new gear you need to join better bands or make better music.
(read: plane and hotel tickets are keeping me off the pedlol buying wagon for the first bit of 2016 and it is the worst).

You need goals in life, and if you make them specific enough, you can buy every once in a while and still enjoy the thrill of the hunt.
Gone are the days where i bought waylay with a scatter gun.. It's all sniping from here on out niggas.

Dude you can maybe shoot me in person! I'll have a couple of free days on either end of my trip so I'm trying to wander around a little bit to see folks.

Serious remark : I'm a bit confused sometimes by how much money people spend on music gear... I do have a nice job that pays well enough (not like a lawyer or doctor though, I work on games

) but there's no way I'd spend the amount of money on gear that lots of people here (and even worse, on Muffwiggler) seem to spend. Do you just all earn a shitload of money, spend all the money you get every month without saving anything or use credit or something ?
