Went to see it on saturday, great film! I deliberately wasn't too optimistic but it was really good. It was funny how the plot was absolutely the same as episode iv, and I'm completely fine with that! Enjoyable film, good cast, looking forward to the next one.

It's been 2 days and I kind of want to see it again.

I don't normally feel that way, I didn't get sold by the trailers and I really, really hate the "sooo nerdy" comic movies, but it just feels good to see a Star Wars film that doesn't suck. I've just been burnt by the franchise, it's never really existed to me outside of the 3 movies from the 70s and 80s. I'm rewatching Empire right now and i've missed it. :idk:

I don't think that i'm going to spend my time in the fan pages with fan theories though, I want to watch Episode 8&9 fresh without having to pick apart everything.

Stylistically JJ did a great job making the movies "feel" like the original trilogy FAR, FAR better than the prequels. The impression I got with this movie is Disney is going to "pretend" Episodes 1-3 do not exist, there was only 1 tiny nod to the prequels and about 50 billion to Episodes 4-6.

If your hoping for the look of Transformers or the new Star Trek movies your going to be disappointed. I think JJ was instructed to honor the original trilogy and he did that in spades.

I don't know if I've ever gone into a movie with a greater sense of dread and with lower expectations. I'm honestly expecting it to be TERRIBLE.

I loved the first 3 movies and saw them a hundred billion times when I was a kid. The prequels were such atrocious piles of dogshit that they poisoned me against the entire franchise. Adding in Abrams is like adding a rotting carcass onto that plateful of dogshit.

I'm also a huge fan of Star Trek TNG/DS9 and all of the movies up until Nemesis. I've gone back and watched most of TOS as well. The new reboot ST movies that Abrams made were abominably bad. He managed to take a cerebral series with important storytelling and major social commentary, and he turned it into awful Transformers-style CGI porn and lens flares. Why anyone lets JJ Abrams direct above a grade-school play is beyond me.

The fact that all of you are saying it's good is really confusing me. It doesn't seem like it's possible that that adolescent shitshow artist could be capable of doing anything competently.
Save the Star Trek fandom this is how I felt going into Star Wars (went on a whim with some friends). Totally prepared for the prequel-letdown thing.

That is not what happened. It was rad. It was so fucking rad.

Soft reboot. Really loved it, especially the new characters and the possibilities of where their various stories could be headed. Finding out where the hell Rey came from and how/why her Jedi powers have been locked away will be interesting. Kylo Ren is one of the best Star Wars character of all time. A seriously intimidating, very powerful and dark new villian who takes his mask off and reveals himself to be a snivelling, spoilt, angry goth kid. A dumb kid. Amazing. I really wish there had been a scene where everyone got to sit down and chill out for a while, maybe discuss everything that was happening and what needed to happen in order to move forward. There was a little too much action and the film moved too quickly, nobody would have complained if it was 10 minutes longer. A LOT of stuff could have done with being better explained (we know Han had been tracking movement of the Falcon, but he shows up almost instantly. C'maaaann), but maybe a lot of the little things still will be. Excellent film with loads of memorable moments. C3PO is still a fucking wank, though.

maybes spoiler tags ( Imean if you're in the thread you've probs seen it but still?)

I will say that Star Wards 2015 does a really nice job of illustrating the difference in pacing between a movie from '77 and today. Only REALLY IMPORTANT THINGS get the lingering camera treatment.

Yo, seriously, I could not unsee Adam Driver from his boytoy Girls / Francis Ha type cast and it distracted the hell out of me.

It was awesome. Somehow they nailed the feel of the OT. Practically nonstop action but definitely very strong emotionally as well. A couple scenes in particular I found incredibly moving.

A couple lines were a little too "Marvel snappy modern dialogue" and didn't fit (when Han was nodding to get Finn to look behind him and Finn was like 'what is this, why are you doing this'").Also Carrie fisher is unfortunately no longer a convincing Leia lol

I loved it.

Qualm: in previous movies it seemed that the force is so complex and delicate that it can't possibly be learned without extensive training. Now we have someone with no training being super strong in it. Only way this makes sense is if the new person who learns the force (trying not to give anything away) is the absolute strongest force wielder of all time. Also, I thought you needed the force to use a light saber?

Other than that, loved it.

One theory I liked (aside from rushed storytelling) was that the Force is distributed equally among each user, so when there's only 1-2 people with access to it they're a lot more powerful than they would be if there were, say, 100-200 people using it.

Pretty sure that's half baked, but I like it.

Adam Driver listens to one of my old (admittedly not very good - wrote it in a day because we needed another song for our album) songs in an episode of Girls, so yer man Dungus here has actually won all of the Six Degrees of Star Wars Kevin Bacon awards. Thaannkkyyee.

No one in that movie was a master of the force, actually. Both Rey and Kylo were beginners. Being able to use the force instinctively is something that's already established in canon.

Blown away that Decanter of Salt liked this flick. Liking things isn't Salty.

Who are Rey's parents? Could be that Luke's her dad, but more interesting if she's Han and Leia's child that Han didn't know about.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.
