You can do that on unemployment.

Don't give me ideas... ;)

Once again, I think what we're highlighting is the difference between financing a project and providing operational capitol.

Correct. Most people have no idea how much work writing is and are willing to do it for way less money than they should as a result.

I think crowdfunding is out of control, yes. Trying to nail down that line delineating a worthy fundraiser and a moneygrab is probably a futile endeavour, but you know it when you see it.

Not worthy: Devi Ever post-Console. "I need you to pay for my entire existence because, uh, I can't get a job at a coffee shop like other people because, uh, I'm a victim. Or something." No thanks and actually, you're a sociopath. I hear the corner Starbucks a-callin'.

Not worthy: 90% of Patreon. A lot of them literally say "I'll use the money for rent!" LOL how about I'LL fucking use the money for rent, ya dig? Are you fucking new here?

Not worthy: "Buying" Gibson http://www.sonicstate.com/amped/2015/03 ... n-attempt/ (I interviewed this guy for my blog and still have the interview, but didn't punlish because it was old news by the time I got around to it)

Worthy: our child just contracted a flesh-eating bacterium and we face $1,000,000 in medical bills. Please help any way you can. (Not hypothetical, I contributed to this one.)

Worthy: help us raise funds to adopt our special-needs son who is waiting for us in an orphanage in rural Vietnam. Money will pay for fees with the agency and travel. (Also contributed to this one.)

Worthy: help me publish my book! Every contributor gets a copy of the book as a reward. (And several along these lines.)

etc.
fuck I actually agree with you…

Anyway, is it just me or is GoFundMe getting out of control. I have two Facebook "friends" doing GoFundMes: one is too complete his masters degree and the other is to buy a house. It's starting to leave a sour taste in my mouth for worthy fundraisers that should deserve the attention because people are just taking advantage of the system.

Has anyone else experienced this bullshit?
actually no but I do enjoy watching all the #%@!

It's weird/despressing how Go Fund Me seems like a deliberately amateurish version of Kickstarter. The name of each one sums up what to expect from the users.

I'm trying to start up my own little business, and see Kickstarter as something to do a little further down the line. I want to "pay my dues" first, and know that since I don't have a recognisable brand, that I can only charge so much, and that things will be slow at best. But I'd rather do that than just asking people for money, which is how GFM seems to work. Just seems like common sense to me to actually have some grounding and invest the time and money yourself, and most importantly to know what you're doing, and be passionate about it. :idk: There's the addage that most small businesses fail within a year, but it seems that's only because certain people just don't really know what they're doing, have any experience, and expect everything to be there from day 1 and to be immediately successful.

I have to agree the Go Fund Me ones are usually the more "have just give me money" of the two but Kickstarter had/has a few gems.

Like the guy who never had potato salad and started a Kickstarter as a joke. Raised $55K (it was up to $80K but I think he gave money back and others pulled out). He ended up throwing a giant potato salad party and inviting everyone, because obviously his joke got out of hand.

Apparently the same dude is now doing a Kickstarter for a potato salad cookbook

Can confirm from personal experience.

I'm a parent and a teacher and my blog has suffered from that.

Which means I have my priorities straight! But it doesn't make blogging any easier.

I found out that apparently Go Fund Me is a HUGE problem in the Bodybuilding world! hahahahaha! I would have never even known if this thread didn't exist! My favorite's are the one's that break down expenses for you. Like "here's how much money I have to spend to be healthy". Hahahahaha. Give me a fucking break!!! If you can't afford to compete or you can't get a company to pay for your shit, you need to reassess your "career" and maybe look into doing something less expensive. Or maybe can a break from pinning yourself so you can afford the more important things...Good God. That's a joke, but we all know most of them do it.

I'll let you guys sift through them if you want. Some are really funny.
