Dude, I show these movies to any kid I come in contact with. Which sounds creepy, but like, my mother is a teacher and I've got several of her classes hooked on the shizz. Never met a kid who didn't love them some Miyazaki. This whole idea that kids love hyperactive movies without deeper meaning is a myth created by suits.

Well they loved Ponyo, so I'm gonna go up and do at least Totoro. Have to decide between Mononoke or Spirited Away though. Spirited Away is my #1 of all time so I lean towards that.

They will need some Takahata as well, though. Princess Kaguya is such a beatiful film. Oh, and Grave of Fireflies.

I'm going to drink a beer or two to break the whole social anxiety thing, walk into a mall and buy everything in 30 minutes. It's one of the few times a year I touch alcohol. I hate crowds, but I'm also a master procrastinator. SQUEEEE!

My favorite miyazakes are the cat ones. Can't recall what they're called now... But there is three that are only sort of related that all use the same characters and I love them. And porco rosso. Actually just all of them. I'm a sucker.

Oh fuck guys I completely forgot about Kiki's Delivery Service which I always do which is weird because it's my second favorite Miyazaki film, totally going with that.

Eivind, I don't think they're ready for Grave of the Fireflies yet

I haven't stared. I have now idea what anybody is getting.
I'm a fucking scrooge. Really don't want to see my family. Only looking forward to the fact that mother-in-law always gets me a new pair of Levis 511s.
It's hard to be like, "hey I really just need to have this amp re-tubed, think you can foot the bill for that?"
or
"find me a nice volume pedal that won't suck the toanz from my fingerz because i don't want to do that kind of research."
or
"i'm looking for a new bridge pickup (bucker) and neck pickup (tele) pick out something cool."

so instead I'll try to compile a list of books I would like. Maybe a game or two that I won't play. Maybe some dope board games. Maybe a paper shredder. My life is average.

My wife is hard to shop for, she never wants anything material, and when she does, I fuck it up.

Like, she wanted a purse for her birthday, so I got her a custom one-off from couch....and apparently it's more "tote bag" than purse, and she hasn't touched it. It was like $120 or something, and she bought a $15 one from jc penny and loves it.

No idea what to get her. I'm easy. I've a list a mile long of pedals and video games.

My kids love Ponyo.

And holy shit, Laputa and Mononoke run close seconds to Nausicaa.
Which is the best film ever.

My wife scored her last purse from a thrift shop and friggen loves it,
I wouldn't have a chance of finding a purse for her

The story behind the purse to her is way more interesting than the actual object, which is pretty cool I think.

I hate malls, I used to know the guy who ran the footlocker but he quit last year so I have no reason to go to a mall.
Amazon is my holiday friend!!

Dude, I can bake like it's no one's business. Everyone I know besides my family gets boozed up cakes and breads. It's the law of the law round my parts.

I wish that worked on my family, but my dad is a professional chef, I can't beat the old man.

If I move near any one of you, you will also be showered in delicious boozy baked stuff.

Obviously, everyone loves Miyazaki around here :). Kids, adults, almost everybody. But I've got friends in France whose daughter loves Totoro more than any other movie, too. Most kids will love Totoro. Anybody with a heart will love Totoro, actually (and I'm saying that as someone who usually hates anime...).

Not all his movies are great though, the latest one ("The wind rises" I think) was meh. And kind of disturbing/tone-deaf in its depiction of WW2.

And shopping... I need to buy stuff for my family abroad like, right now. That stuff can take ages to go around the world.

Things are really TIGHT this year but the wife and I subscribed to Loot Crate last year and that's how I'm doing the extended fam. I have five siblings and a clusterfuck of nephews and neices. If it wasn't for them, Loot Crate wouldn't be worth it but being able to just stack boxes until Christmas and dole them out is pretty cool.

The 6 year old foster nephew will get some legos and the Quints just turned three.....so I can just do barbies for the girls, music stuff for one boy and action figures for the other two and they're good to go. 5 month old baby......I don't know what she gets......
