Well it's such a specific request that most of us never heard before...
Now this is making more sense. That does exist but you already said it's something that you're not interested in (a Line6 POD or similar). And using just your computers sound card wont sound very good especially with just a pedal in front of it.

JHS.
At least around here.
Still, it wont sim an amp and your soundcard wont react like an actual A/D interface to the signal. If you do go this route it will still sound harsh and unnatural like the headphones output on most amps. The key to "recording" console pedals that builders don't tell you is that those guys were writing to tape and using other studio tricks to emulate an amp into a speaker cab when they'd plug direct into the console.
Now someone correct me if I'm wrong but the idea behind a pedal like the Colour Box is to get all those weird and hi-fi tones that old school guys got by plugging straight into the console not to actually be a channel strip in a pedal right?

The Colour Box or an actual strip is only part of the equation, you're dead right there. Going to need more than just that to record straight in and get magical silliness.
There's no reason to *not* use an amp or amp sim first - and if that's lacking, then you go down the rabbit hole of chasing something else.
But even there, I'd go with a better interface first (pre and A/D/D/A converters) before going for alleged magic in a $400 pedal.

Oh really? That's pretty fucking cool then, I was thinking of pedals that mimic a channel strip's input stage like the SHO/Super-Duper.
Agreed. I prefer to use my DI into my M-Track interface and set my monitoring to direct to practice bass. I can headphones or my Yamaha monitors.

Why would you say that? I've got feelings too

I was just wondering if there was some effect box to put between the guitar and the soundcard so it would simulate amplifier

have a nice day mr. soapbars
