:idk:

You certainly don't have to agree, I thought that was the point of this thread?

I just am sad because I can't recreate my music live.

My thing is that I do this weird thing where if I come up with a sweet riff, my subconscious mind squirrels it away in the "can't remember how it Really went" zone.
Like i'll try and play it again later, even if I had recorded it i'm like, what the hell was I doing there? And it seems I can only ever approximate myself by about 80%.
And so all my song ideas are just jams that were inspired in the moment which I can never fully recreate. It sux

My phone is currently my only form of recording, but in a way it's nice, because if I come up with something I really like, I play it how it's meant to be played, then play it again but slower and with the camera focused on my fretting hand. Next best thing to tabbing it out, and serves as a great reference.

This plagued me for like...the first 10 years of playing..I've only recently really been able to write stuff that is my own. Sure there's influence, but I can call it mine without feeling like I'm pulling from another song I know how to play by someone else.

And I love you all. Your quirks are reassuring

bumping this because I thought of one just before. At the end of the chorus of 'yesterday' by the beatles, how the 'ay' in yesterday does that little 'ay-ay-ay-ay' cadence. It annoys the living piss out of me for no real reason.

I fall into a rut with keys/scales a lot, at least when doing stringed instrument based music. I'll get stuck playing in a key I feel comfortable doing vocals over/playing leads over and suddenly I have an album's worth of songs in one key.

There are some bands that literally only play in one key and people love them so :idk:

I know what you mean though. After I learned my first bit of theory I started realizing how I was just riffing off my low string as the tonic note all the time. Literally all the time. I was pissed at myself for a while but eventually started to try and make riffs in random places of the fretboard to mix it up. I still really like using open strings but that's a good thing because it can open up an interval or riff that would be harder to pull off if one of your open strings is the tonic note.

If I'm at a show and I see a drummer using a click track, I will almost immediately think less of the band/drummer.
But the Dear Hunter is one of my favorite live bands to see and Nick uses a click track live.

I just gave the guitarist in my band a capo to get around us both constantly writing stuff based on open strings.

Well, some bands use loss of samples and shit, so a clack track is a must. :idk:

I think it'd be weird if only the drummer used a click.

Click tracks are insanely useful. As Inconuucl says, it is insanely helpful with things involving samples and tracks. Also a major help when involving non regular band members. You'd be surprised how many bands actually use click tracks. Playing to a click is also a skill that needs practice. Some people are better at it than others.

The good drummers (particularly hip hop drummers these days) know how to really use click for time keeping, but vary from it.

Here's a good demo of how to properly use click. Notice how he varies from being in time with the click to being off. When he is directly on, the counting will disappear, when he is off, you can hear the voice clearly. The actual drumming starts at 2:32. Bonus 13/16 time signature drum solo at the end.

I have seen many bands play with only the drummer on click, the rest of the band just times themselves to the drummer. A lot of people have somewhat irrational hangups about using click, and that is a happy compromise.

I can't stand anything done by an arrogant pretentious twat. So U2....The Police.....hate that shit. It even carries into other stuff. Used to love Family Guy but Seth seems like such a douche I can't enjoy it anymore.

Also has residual impact when arrogant assholes like someone......like Neil Degrasse Tyson. Used to like him but so many assholes do now that I find myself not digging him so much.

This was a well thought out and very intelligent response.

What the crap dude????

actually makes alot of sense, I sometimes wish we used click tracks, I think you can still find your pocket regardless
