Aesthetically. I haven't driven a newer one. Mine has 230,000 miles on it, though, and it's still in pretty good shape (although it needs some work that I've been neglecting since I lost my license).CyaNitrate wrote:Just aesthetically, or functionality?

Re: Car shopping...
We have owned a Honda Civic, which was a really fun car to drive but was the WORST in snow, so we got rid of it. We now have a Subaru Impreza hatchback that I love. It is fairly new 2012 but we have had no issues at all.
We also drive a Toyota van and that is really nice, but probably more than you need, spatially speaking.

Van is definitely not happening until either kids or a band situation happen. Lucky for me, snow isn't really an issue where I live. However, the Arizona sun is brutal, and I've been living without air for the last two years. I sweat a lot. This needs to be rectified.

That said, I've only been here two years, I grew up in Michigan, so I feel ya on the snow driving blues.

Subaru. All day long.
Wife and I are on our 2nd, which is the 4th I’ve had and maybe the 8th in my family. Even our Impreza, the smallest hatchback, has room for a metric fuckton of gear - more so if you go for roof racks and the like. I’m not clocking the milage, but it’s above average for an AWD - I drive in some of the worst traffic in the country everyday and still only need to fill up once a week, tops. And AWD means that I’ve only had to shovel twice in the past decade while everyone else runs around crying about the snowmageddon and such silliness - no, they are just driving wussy cars.
And maybe I sound like an advertisement, and sadly not the cool one with Professor Longhair, but Subaru’s have saved my life and the lives of my loved ones. I’ve been in two, maybe three, potentially deadly accidents in my life, all in Subaru’s. Walked away from each one.
If I had the cash and the need, I'd go get one of the CrossTreks. Drove one while mine was in for her checkup - nice ride, best sound system I've heard in awhile, and felt like I was driving Frank Miller's Batmobile.

The bright orange crosstrek is pretty sweet looking. I'm a vain asthetisist though..if it doesn't look cool (to me) I don't want it.

I'm that way about gear, too, which is dumb.

Re: Car shopping...
While this has very little to do with the subject, but try car shopping in a area where it's mostly retired folks. Recently picked up a car for my wife. It was a 2012 Honda Accord with 7800 miles on it. Yes, 7800 (not 78,000). Talking to the staff, they told me it wasn't that uncommon in a area with a lot of retirees.

Re: Car shopping...
Probably gonna keep shopping around, and commission should be more next month so I'll have more to work with, because when I pointed at my 189xxx mile car as a trade in, they kinda chuckled, which means I gotta try to sell that bitch, too, but can't before I have new wheels...bleh
