I'll say :picard:

the first one I ever saw and fell in love with is STILL in my neighbourhood - 30 years later. It's in MINT shape. The guy takes reeeeeeeeally good care of it. Still drives it regularly, during the summer.
Some day, that car will be mine. I know it... he knows it... It's just a matter of time.

A dude was selling a Volvo like that in my neighborhood (orange and clean as hell) but he wants over 25k for it. Still there 3 years later haha.

Might as well go the Hallmark route, hometown pride and all.

I've been toying with the idea of buying an old project car to fix up, but after checking out a few cars and discussing things with my wife I'd decided I can't justify spending the money right now.

But then I find this on my local CL:

Not much info in the ad, and definitely more than I want to spend, but fuuuck that's tempting. Sell a guitar or two....

The thought has also crossed my mind to sell my daily driver (Acura RSX Type-S) and downgrade to something cheaper in order to fund a cool project car like that 914.

Those Porsche's are cute, but do you really wanna mid-engine Porsche with a VW engine?

+ do you want to pay a premium just for a name? Almost be better to just find a body and put an old datsun (but you know you should just go GM, but they made easy and cheap to find rwd) in it or something.

Certain Porches also have stigmas about them...like the more affordable they were originally, the more likely they were not taken care of properly (basically treated like an actual car). I believe the 914 and 944's were somewhat notorious for that (if I remember correctly). They were just kind of known for problems (they were the cheaper models). My dad talked me out of an 500-800 dollar (don't remember exactly) because of that (well, he wanted something he liked too).

You're honestly better off getting a Sunbeam Tiger or something (they had a 289 Ford in 'em)

I always liked those.

Or just make a sleeper Datsun 240z...

Just my opinion though. I just think there are better porches out there over the 914.

Oh I agree that there are better cars out there, I'd much rather have a 240z or a Sunbeam Tiger. Hell, there are tons of cars I'd rather buy than a 914. The problem is that I'm looking for a cool project car on a rather limited budget.

Realistically I'm not buying anything for a while anyway.

Yea, I know, but this is about dreams! And you can find cheap Datsuns (just gotta take a vacation to the US, people are always trading and stuff down here). Used to see tigers for pretty cheap for a good running car honestly (haven't looked in a long while though).

I mean my dad got the morris minor for like 2k and it ran and he got the austin healey for 700 (it was completely in parts and boxes, but it was all there). I'm just saying there are deals out there, haha.

I always got a special respect for people that take weird stuff and make it neat. Like those dudes that build rock climbers out of Amigos and Samurais. Or putting snow mobile engines in geo metros or fiats. That stuff is awesome. Just gotta look around and people will give you stuff if you want to invest the time. I remember picking up a turbo 400 transmission in a trade for a unomig harbor frieght wire feed welder. Or doing sprinklers for an old 350 block. Stuff like that haha. I just think it gets harder with something like a porche. My dad found harley carbs and he put those on the old 4 cylinder austin healey engine.

Awesome, UG. Your dad's 33 is really clean and sharp but your uncle's 32 is more my style man; it has a really clean traditional hot rod look to it. Do they take them out or are they mostly show cars? They look real clean, man.

Dang, now I want my dad to actually finish a car so I can post it, haha. If I ever get back up to Washington, I snap some pics of the morris minor, austin healy sprite, and (i think...only saw it once) a jeep willys wagon or something (thing is pretty neat though).
