Use higher quality but cheaper cuts of meat, and choose dishes that are appropriate.

Switch half the meat in a recipe for chickpeas, black beans etc. I love grains and legumes and stuff as much as I love meat so I tend to think this is a nice thing to do anyway flavour wise, but it's super cheap too.

Have a couple of dishes that are a good way to use leftovers. Frittata and breakfast burritos are two favourites. Fried rice is good too.

Weigh meat as bananas at the self checkout scale

When a place has any size coffee as $.99, fill up a 24ozer with just cream/milk and bring it home to use

ALWAYS TAKE A PENNY, NEVER LEAVE ONE

Siphon gas from cars at a park and ride

Its easy to hack into wifi, so just use your neighbors

I kid, I kid :picard:

self checkouts are okay about small thefts (stealing is bad but if you're going to do it)

like buying donuts. just give the wrong number.
you can also cheat the scale by lifting some of the weight up and punching in what item it is
also, cheat the scale by leaving an item off or half off it

DRINK WATER - yes it sucks but it sucks less after a few weeks.

Eat oats-don't cook them. they will expand in your stomach when you drink water making you feel fuller. Also works with rice but not recommended.

Never say no to a free meal. If you're in college there should be a church-y college event either on or near campus with free food about once a week. Get that. Similarly some churches do breakfast on sunday like doughnuts. They have the donuts to get you to come. It isn't exploiting them.

Freeze your food and eat it frozen. Meals take longer because its harder to eat. Making it feel like you're eating more.

Ramen is bad. You can make soup out of chicken bones and seasonings. Its just like chicken noodle but no noodles.

Cut the amount of meals you eat. Like Eat once a day. Dont do this longterm.
to fight "hunger" take up a new hobby like reading. Libraries, yo.

Keep your house/apartment colder/hotter than you prefer (depending on summer/winter). A Couple degrees is big savings on energy bill.

Dont use computer/TV as much, you should be using that power for your pedals and amps. Again, a little change makes a difference.

Walk to places instead of driving where possible.

Don't buy new strings until you have to. EDIT: on this note, take care of your strings so you don't have to replace them

That's it for now

Shit is true, though. Daycare is like a second mortgage for the first year or two.

Also, don't have pets. I'm sure I've spent well over ten grand on each of my teenaged dogs over their lives. I love them, but damn.

Eat vegan. It is cheaper, and healthier. You save on food costs now, and health care costs later.

Listen opinions are like assholes. Know what I'm saying. There's no scientific evidence or medical evidence to prove that vegan eating is "healthier" for the human body. Also, if it's cheaper, then you are not eating enough. :)

I don't want to get into a long winded rant but I could debate the shit out of this subject on both fronts.

As far as being frugal. It's all about living within your means. So you don't buy things you can't afford. That's it. That's they way to live frugal. Or just be cheap as shit. Same thing. It sucks, but it's easier to survive that way.

Get a gas station prices comparator on your smartphone. I have 5 or 6 different stations that I pass by weekly. I make a mental note of the cheapest and keep tabs on pricing and fill the tank up when it's a good deal. Depending on how much you drive, it might save you a lot of money.

Tires are expensive, but there are low cost shops that will give you bulk prices and mount them for cheap (Carter Cash & such). I save half off from the dealership, and 30% from any big name store and end up with some high end rubber instead of mid tier.

Check your fluid levels regularly. Keep the air vents clean. Keep a good tire pressure. This will dramatically improve your mileage on a full tank.

Cost per unit thingy of course is common sense. Watch out for family packs and promotions. Sometimes, they're not actual good deals.

If you're in the EU, watch out for your phone plan. I now pay 15,99 for an unlimited phone / text / data plan. Compare and don't hesitate to switch carrier anytime one slashes the prices. I now people who are still using some big name companies and pay twice that for their own... And I have more 4G included than them. Just because they jumped on some grouped offer with their home interwebz plan, which turned out not to be so big a deal.

Eating at uni is fucking expensive. Bring your own food (left over tomato and basil pasta is my favorite). To keep it fresh, put the box in the fridge in a big plastic bag that you wrap around it. Leave under the car sit, and it will still be fresh when you come back to your car to snack at noon. Also, all buildings in the same uni don't have the same contract for coffee and vending machines. When I need something, I just save 10-20% by walking to the economy building... It's also cheaper than the cafeteria. This also applies to photocopiers and printers.

For phones, computers etc... Either buy very low end or very high end. The rest will depreciate more / faster. You'll only get some good money back on a high end laptop or an iPhone after a few years of use.

Cinemas are a rip off. Have an indie YouTube / Vimeo short films marathon at home with your friends. You're in for some giggles.

Video games are a rip off. Play mario kart on your laptop on a poorly coded emulator.

Gym's are a rip off. Buy a pair of running shoes, a yoga mat and some fitness shorts. Run like the little bitch you are when the weather is nice. Stretch like the little bitch you are when the weather sucks.

Another student tip is that CONDOMS ARE FUCKING EXPENSIVE. Don't buy, grab a handful somewhere on campus. Remember they expire though. If you're not a student, planned parenthood centers are you friends.

You don't need to iron your clothes. Got them out of the dryer while they're just little bit wet and put them on a hanger to dry (button it if it's a shirt).

I'm going to have to agree with this.

Without getting into a long rant, of course.

It's just simple math.
Meat, cheese, milk = $$$$$$
Veg, beans, nuts, grains, fruits = $

Also, I cheat the scale all the time. I also buy organic bulk stuff and ring them up as non-organic. Better quality, less money.

this. ironing is such a waste of time.
also, unless you can't get away with it in your profession, wear clothes that don't need to be washed often, e.g. drop a couple of hundred or more and own one really rugged pair of selvedge denim jeans that you can wash once a year instead of having several economy pairs that all get washed after a couple of uses. saves money, water, electricity, not supporting the shitty labor conditions responsible for budget clothing etc.
