Re: Why do you love fuzz?
Because back in the early '90s all my guitar playing friends had a button that said DISTORTION on their amps, and I always wondered why bass amps didn't have the same fucking thing.
So I bought some fuzz pedals.

I dunno, before I played with fuzzes, I just used distortion pedals and channels. But getting into doom more really guaranteed that fuzz would become a staple in my life. I'm probably a little more conventional in my fuzz needs than a lot of ILF, but some of my favorites are meatheads, Dunwich Wizard and Cthulhu Fuzz, BAT Pharaoh and Black Forest, and boss FZ-2 on fuzz 1 setting. I'm just getting into +/- octaves and feedback oscillation in fuzz now though, gotta DIY some shit together and experiment.

Re: Why do you love fuzz?
Awesome post, man. I gotta agree with you all the way. There is just something too regular about fuzz and overdrive. It is all about the decay (and all the other weird things fuzz does in different situations).goroth wrote:For the long version see:

I can hear the voltage fluxuations in my house with how my 46 sounds. Totally different sounds between all my different guitars. Fuzz is like one of those simple, but astoundingly mysterious devices (not all of them, but the good ones).

Re: Why do you love fuzz?
when I first started playing guitar a friend of my dad lent me a WEM 2x12 stack (probably a dominator?) and three pedals. A brand new spanking boss dd3, a mutron III which I thought was utter shit (silly boy) and a V5 big muff which blew my little powerchord chugging socks off. I saved all my moneyz and bought myself a green russian brand new from someone on Denmark street.................................fuck knows where it is now?

Re: Why do you love fuzz?
Hearing Blue Cheer mangle the shit out of "Summertime Blues" when I was in the 5th grade. I'd already been playing for 2 years at that time, and I'd try my hardest to cop that sound with cheap distortion pedals I got on birthdays and at Christmas. Fast forward a decade and a guy that moved away left his big muff at my house, while another buddy let me borrow an old Ross Flanger. Those two pedals sounded so fucking rad together. By my mid 20's, I'd tried a ton of fuzzes out. And by my early-mid 30's, much like MLC, I was crazy about oscillating fuzzes. These days, I find myself liking simpler, older sounding fuzz pedals (fuzzface, Bosstone, Maestro, Fuzzrites, etc.).

Thanks to you for that link you PM'd me I've been listening to 60-70's songs for the past hour. Man, I forgot how much I love this music. Wish my wife was into it.

Re: Why do you love fuzz?
My first pedal was actually a fuzz. EHx Little Big Muff
Right now, I have:
Infanem 141G
Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh
Infanem Second Voice
Holy Fuzz Of Antioch (custom green ringer and germanium fuzz)
Pussy Riot (custom Big Muff based fuzz)
Verellen Big Spider
EHx Little Big Muff
I can relate to most of the comment in this thread. I just feel like adding something. I love fuzz because of the infinite amount of textures these provide. It just is crazy. Some are swwssshhh and other nnnnnnnnggggg and shit but never in the same way. So inspiring.

Textures, especialy in the way they decay as goroth pointed out. Some just fade out, then some crackle, some sizzle like frying bacon while others just spit, sputter and fart thier way to a dead stop. Then you get the ones that fade into a glorious wall of feedback or oscillation.

Re: Why do you love fuzz?
When I started getting into music I wanted to play jingle janglely post punk stuff and the thought of distortion or fuzz was never in my head. Some how though, I walked into the MOOG audio store in Montreal and saw the huge layout of effects pedals, all plugged in ready to be tweaked and played around with and an interest was formed. Little boxes that can change how your instrument sounds in subtle or mostly overt ways.

Re: Why do you love fuzz?
I was touched by fuzz when I was a kid, and I have been fascinated by it ever since. It was really my first musical experience.
