Re: Ever lose sleep over a pedal?

Yeah my wife is amazingly and awesomely tolerant of all the gear ins and outs
Last year when I bought a custom bass from Scotland, I thought I had at least a week or more to let her know about it because I had just gotten the shipping notice from the builder. Little did I know that magic fairies flew the thing across the ocean at light speed and it showed up at my door THE NEXT DAY, resulting in her having to fork out the $300 or so in duty and taxes for something she didn't expect to arrive and had no idea what it was, let alone where I got the monies from to pay for it. Needless to say, it wasn't a good evening. To say she flipped would be a gigantic understatement.neonblack wrote:I felt bad yesterday cause my wife didn't see the PayPal notification where $200 was added to our account from me selling a pedal, just the notification where $250 was taken out. She almost flipped but then I explained.
We both would have lost sleep over that one.
More on topic, I have four awesome pedals coming in the mail in the next week or so and it actually feels like Christmas.
True enough. From my wife's point of view I have no money to go out drinking, hanging out with the guys or finding a hottie of loose morals to whore around with. I need that money for pedals and other music related equipment/supplies!CyaNitrate wrote:neonblack wrote:...I feel like many of us married folk really owe our significant others for tolerating our gear whoring habits.
haha, neonblack wrote: Wait, I'm confused. Are you guys splitting up or are you swingers?
Or is she just getting into gear?
Yeah I definitely thought that when sitcoms started having episodes about swinging it was pretty much over. I guess not. I often wake up with a riff to try, or something to add to what I was working on earlier. My practice space closes at 10 so i frequently spend a few hours after 10 wishing I could still be working on some songs....lordgalvar wrote: Do swingers even exist anymore. I thought all that stuff went away with Burt Reynolds, fondue parties, gold chains, mustaches, unbuttoned shirts, and the era of Gerald Ford.

Fun story about that...I got married last August, and the October before, I got a head start on "No-Shave November."spacelordmother wrote: I am also quite blessed in having a fiance who is tolerant of all the gassing and flipping. Ha! I get the opposite (mind you my beard never gets over an inch long because I start to look really rugged with all my scars and stuff). She won't let me shave. I have to have at least a 5 o'clock shadow all the time or she gets kind of mad (and that's a minimum). I gave her the bass yesterday and the first thing she said after "It's not in tune" was "This thing is badass, I need some pedals". Freaking crazy.CyaNitrate wrote:Fun story about that...I got married last August, and the October before, I got a head start on "No-Shave November."spacelordmother wrote: I am also quite blessed in having a fiance who is tolerant of all the gassing and flipping. She HATED it. Like, a regular beard, cool. But I was pushing ZZ Top territory. Awesome, right?
Well she hated it, and I knew I'd have to knock it down for the wedding. So in June, two months before the wedding, the strat in my avatar popped up on Craigslist in Phoenix, a two hour drive south. I jokingly showed her the pic and joked I'd let her cut my beard if she bought it for me.
We drove down. She bought it. And slaughtered the beard that night.
My thoughts were, "well, if it's gotta go for the wedding, I may as well get a guitar out of it."
I'm gassing for a Korg MS20 Mini; the price for a new one has dropped to $449 street.spacelordmother wrote:Pedals no, synths YES..I am also quite blessed in having a fiance who is tolerant of all the gassing and flipping.
