I think that's what it comes down to, the scene you're playing in.

There's two schools of thought:
-Go big or go home
-You'll be miced, 100+ watts is overkill.

Each has merits, because if you know you won't be miced, it stands to reason you need the extra volume. But if it is a gig with a good sound system, smaller amps can sound much bigger. For most people, especially non gigging bedroom players like myself, you can get by with 50 watts or less, because you just won't ever get to really unleash the thing without going deaf or getting noise complaints.

When I was researching old Fender amps, there was a term called right-sizing used.
Bedroom player = Champ/Vibro Champ
Small solo gig = Princeton Reverb
Small-medium gig with band = Deluxe Reverb
Bigger gigs = Twin Reveb

I know everyone can't just go buy a new amp for every gig, I sure can't, and there is overlap between the sizes. But the idea is if you just play at home, you don't need a Twin, and if you gig, a Champ probably won't cut it. Based on what everyone else is saying, the CR120 sounds like a safe bet.

that's for sure. I got mine back in Feb of last year and luckily within the next week I had a gig so I took it along with me.

Thanks again all. I'm a big fan of SS amps if they sound good. Cant be doing with gear snobbery and thats why this forum is great, much more honest than most!

Yeah.

From everything that's been discussed about this amp I definitely feel like it can contend with some serious shit.

We had one in used at gc, and I liked it. Not as much as my Ampeg VH140C or Randall Cyclone, but enough that I was going to buy it to mess with for a few weeks. Got web ordered before I had the chance though. The best current production solid state amp, hands down. Didn't seem crazy loud for the watts, but I didn't expect it to, it's so light weight-wise. Definitely want to pair it with a 4 ohm cab.

The CR120 is only rated down to 8 ohms. There are two 16 ohm taps.

I have played the cr60 combo and it was pretty rad. Also, the OR15 totally can handle live situations, albeit not exceptionally clean, but if dirt don't hurt then its an excellent choice.
