No problems here, but I also don't get bent out of shape when it comes to radio silence.

But I shouldn't. It's not like I don't think I'm going to get what I paid for. This is why I'm asking you guys for thoughts and advice. I think what you said actually makes me feel much better, oddly enough.

Yeah, I mean it's one thing if you think you're being lead on and fucked over, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

I don't disagree with that at all. I was just wondering other commitments made by the builder in question hadn't popped up and lengthened the build time. Just for consideration.Ugly Nora wrote:That shouldn't matter. You either run a business or you don't. If you accept money for a project it should be completed in a timely manner/in the agreed upon time frame. If it cannot be completed in that timeframe then these guys should at least be in constant communication about the progress. Burrito really needs to get them to commit to a completion date.Iommic Pope wrote:Burrito, aren't your builders frequently on tour?

Has it been double the expected lead time yet? I have a general rule not to bug anyone until that date, if I can prevent myself from getting impatient.
I once had a 3 month build time for a custom bass turn into 19 months. I wasn't too happy about that, but I didn't lose my shit either. It happens, oh well.

A general rule of thumb in business is to under promise and over deliver.

No, double the initial timeframe won't be until early next year. When you put it like that, I feel better. Once again, this is why I asked you guys. Thanks!nad wrote:Has it been double the expected lead time yet? I have a general rule not to bug anyone until that date, if I can prevent myself from getting impatient.

I had a builder make me a headshell for an amp I already had an while the amp was in their shop it "just stopped working." It worked before I gave it to them, and then when they powered it up it "broke" according to the shop guys. I ended up getting the shell at cost, but of course then had to pay to have the amp fixed.

That's some BS.
This thread has been very helpful for me as I'm in a similar situation. It's more an adjustment instead of custom but I've been having these same concerns. But with where my life is right now maybe it's better for me that I'm not given that bill just yet.
life is weird, c'est la vie has become my motto more than ever before lately. We all have an inner tolerance timer though, and when you reach your limit you'll probably know when to ask for your money back, if you ever reach that point.
