I think the Foo Fighters old stuff is amazing. Not a fan of their new stuff.

You want to know who's worse than the Foo Fighters though. Fucking Filter man. They had one good album in the 90's some good soundtrack stuff, the rest sucks.

First album is a good listen. It's just a punk rock machine.
I dig the second album too. It's totally corny, but there's some huge rockers on there. It sounds like if Quicksand tried to write a chart topper.
Hell, I even like the 3rd album. It sounds more like an album that was jammed out than Grohl just turning up to a studio with riffs and telling everyone what to do. It's got a few stinkers on there, but Live In Skin and Aurora are really cool songs. So many grooves. Nate's a great bass player.

I really can't stomach anything they released after that.

Dave seems like a cool guy though. I always like to hear him talking about punk rock from when he was growing up. Pat Smear (Germs), Nate Mendel (Sunny Day Real Estate) and Chris Shiflett (No Use For a Name) have made a lot of music I like too.

I like Foo Fighters a lot

I just do

They're not groundbreaking in any way. They're only a really great modern rock band. Perhaps one of the very biggest we have right now. And yes, rock music has changed, I think it all got very safe over the years because of all the crazy excess early on, all the trouble with the authorities, the drugs, the deaths... so inevitably, a huge modern rock band will probabyl be much safer than we want :idk:

if we don't want safe, we listen to "underground", right? Bands like Whores and such, eh? :)

I love that 1st album, "Oh George" is a great straight up rock song. After that, not so much.

:erm: a bit of too-cool-for-school hipsterdom going on here. Like someone else said, as far as mainstream, made-for-radio rock goes, they're better than most. I certainly don't like everything they've done, but Dave's usually good for a few straight-up rockers on each album. Nothing ground-breaking or boundary-pushing, but not all music has to be that all the time. And he never forgets where he comes from, he pimps a bunch of indy and underground bands all the time. He seems like a cool dude.

This is pretty much my take on it. I've been a fan since shortly after Bleach came out, and have pretty much dug everything the guy's been involved in.

Throwing on Bleach right now aamof.

Grohl doesn't play on Bleach.

I really like the Probot record.

Yeah, Bleach was Chad Channing. And his drumming was pretty damned solid, as well.

Grohl was still in Scream when Bleach came out.

Scream is also pretty rad.

Grohl is a cool guy, and Scream is the shit but foos are nothing more than a mediocre Swervedriver ripoff.

Not liking something is hipsterdom?

I don't know if I hear that, and I love the Swervies.

Someone else said something about 'radio rock,' and that's more or less the entirety of my thoughts on the FF.
