Hmm mixed feedback in this thread. Still very helpful, thanks everyone!!

Skully someone has already offered me $700 so I'm hoping that's a good sign. And honestly my bass is a lot better looking than a lot of the Kramers up there now haha

I sold 20-30 items on eBay, including multiple things worth $500+. I'm done there. I never got outright burned but it's definitely stressful dealing with the dudes that dredge through that site. Close to half of the people I sold to never bothered to leave feedback. I feel like the eBay system is out to get me.

I'm giving Reverb a shot now.

I just had a not great experience selling a guitar on eBay myself. Ebay was the last resort, all I was getting locally was ridiculous trade offers, and nothing here or on the other forum I frequent either.

Initially it sold for not a great price but one that I was happy enough with. The buyer took a couple of days to pay, and then tells me to ship it to him general delivery instead of to his verified address. And he wouldn't even give me his full name, which means that even if I had sent it general delivery it most likely would have just been rejected by the post office and sent right back to me. I got a real sketchy vibe off the guy, I think he was likely trying to scam me. Even if he wasn't, I'm pretty damn sure that it would not have been a success if I'd shipped it how he wanted me to.

So I refunded him and relisted the guitar. Guy keeps harassing me, saying that the address is fine and that I need to cancel my new auction and ship to his shady ass. He then gave me negative feedback claiming that I wasn't happy with the price the guitar sold for and that was why I relisted it. I reported him to ebay, but haven't heard anything back from it and his negative feedback is still there so I think I'm stuck with it.

The relisted auction ended yesterday, and the guitar ended up selling for a whopping $15 more than the shady guy won it for. No problems on this one so far, got the payment and shipped the guitar out today (fully insured, just in case).

I know it will probably be a big pain to get them to do it, but you should be able to get eBay to take that negative down. Asking to ship to a non verified address is a big no-no and eBay can easily review your messages and see that he did so. You should only ever ship to the address listed in the Paypal payment they send you.

I reported it to eBay and asked them to remove the negative feedback. That was about a week ago, so I don't know how long eBay takes to do these sorts of things. Really, if I'm stuck with the negative I'm not too concerned. I don't sell much, so I figure by the next time I do sell something I'll have bought enough crap to have my rating pretty damn high again.

eBay's a crapshoot. Some people are cool, and then every once in a while you get some fuckin dickbag who makes you never want to sell anything on it again.
ie: One pedal I sold the guy messaged me after he got it to say thanks and that it was awesome.
Another pedal I sold during a storm (can't remember if it was Sandy or a snowstorm) where everything was closed for like a week, so I messaged the guy that it was literally impossible for me to ship the pedal because the post office was closed. He then proceeds to flip out at me because it'd been 3 days since he paid. But then sent a thank you once the pedal got there, so that was okay I guess.
And then there's the scammers...

Yeah someone tried that general delivery shit with me, when I was selling a guitar.Watch out for that, everyone. Paypal has rules about how you have to ship it. You have to get signature confirmation to be covered, among other things. I told him after the bidding is over is not the time to discuss the conditions I clearly detailed on my listing about shipping and price. Filed a non-paying buyer complaint, waited a week, relisted and actually sold that time.

What drove me up the wall was deadbeat auction snipers. Wait until the very last second to bid, and then never pay up. This happened more than once. :grumpy:
