My wife is an elementary school music teacher, she runs into these helicopter parents who question EVERYTHING. She loves it but at the same time is happy to be on maternity leave soon. Not to mention the 8 week strike she endured last year. Solidarity.

Her kids do great with drumming though.

Taking over this far into the year is gonna be nightmarish, but it's worth sticking it out if you know it's what you wanna do. We have a very high turnover rate; I've seen teachers have to take over in similar situations and it is possible to turn it around, but it takes a lot...
Ya I took two years off after graduating because I just wasn't ready to start a full time job, I had band pursuits I wanted to get out of the way. So now this teaching gig seems like the best way to get my foot in the door. If they offer me the same positions for next year... I doubt I'll take it. But for now I'm just trying to earn the students trust and respect.

Also, damn man those fifth graders must be a struggle. Mine are absolutely out of control, I've broken up more fights in 2 weeks than I can count. Like every single period some days.

As a republicanist, I find there are two columns that are essential to supporting our very own Liberty - Equality - Fraternity (brotherhood) : public free secular schools and their teachers as well as quality journalism. To define the greater good by voting, we need to be educated and critical enough to understand the information that is provided to us. And we need to know what's going on in the world. Therefore I have an infinite amount of respect and admiration for teachers. First, they do a job I'd incredibly suck at for so many reasons. Second, I consider them to be more of an elite that corporate criminals working on wall street. Third, they make the world a better place everyday.
Thank you for giving me an occasion to brag about being French and therefore better than the rest of the world on an internet forum.

Darcy, I don't think you have to be a republicanist to believe that stuff, I think you just have to be human.

So I was just told by the Principal they hired a new music teacher. I was under the impression that I was I'm this position til the end of the year.

Back to subbing day to day and financial insecurity.

I dunno, I feel like a lot of teachers just help turn children into "responsible adults."

aka Mouth-breathers.

that said, I had a ton of really awesome teachers & professors all the way through my education.
good deals are here.

I aim not to be that kind of teacher.

Just finished mt first week of this Grad. Dip.

Holy shit. I have a fuck-tonne of work to do.
Was having full blown anxiety on Monday....but the more I do, the more kill mode become prevalent once more.
I am more than a bit pissed that my Blue Card hasn't been processed yet, but that's my own stupid fault for not having made it a priority earlier.

I have an assistantship in my Master's program and thus get to teach two intro courses, largely to college freshman, but there's always some upperclassmen. I love it. I get paid to talk to 18-23 year olds about communication and pop culture. What's not to love?
