it's the forcing you to do everything their way (layout, control schemes, proprietary cables etc) that anoiys the shit out of me. let me get under the hood a bit. let me change stuff tp fit the way i want to use it.
While I understand what you're getting at about not being able to change things, I think a huge part of why all Apple stuff works together so well is because they don't allow you to mess with stuff and because everything is standardized. So while you lose out in some areas, you gain that.

yeahhhhhhhhh. urf. i mean. i REALLY don't want this to get into a silly pc vs mac debatey thing, because those are ASININE. akin to arguing religion or abortion.

but i'm not talking about even super deep access privileges. i get what you're saying about a part of the standardization is locking people out from stepping outside of the standard..... but they take it too far for my tastes. they either focus on these cutesy things that bog down how a system runs (animated menus and the like) or decide everything should look a certain way and that's how you have to roll.

why can't i change the font style or systemic colors on my phone that i use like 6 or 7 hours a day? i like dark backgrounds with green or pale white text way better, but that's not an option. i think it extends past "this helps us make a stable reliable product" into "you have to have your device look the way we say it should". which is weird. it's always been odd to me that people see Apple as the Creative Person's Computer Company. they are soooooooooo damn restrictive with all aspects of their product line.

lol. don't even want to START bitching about all the proprietary cables and hardware interface things that lock you into paying about 2 to 3 times what their hardware is worth BUT THAT'S OKAY BECAUSE IT'S SOOOOOOO CUUUUUUUUTE.

whatevah. i'm just stoopid happy that they're starting to address the way we want to control devices. an actual all-in-one portable device is fucking BEAUTIFUL.

the Wink-enabled shtuff gets me so moist too.

Yeah, I do agree with you there. I wouldn't say that I prefer OSX to Windows or anything, or that one is better. Apple's restrictiveness does take things a bit far, or rather, the options they allow you to have are a bit limiting.

Also, fuuuck Apple's cables, man. They're so stupidly overpriced.
My dad bought an off-brand one, and the iPhone refused to charge with it, which is total bullshit.

Virtually every Ph.D. program I'm applying to uses Apple products exclusively and I'm not sure which I'm more worried about - the needlessly exorbitant prices or being lumped into the same user base as those weird hipster kids at Starbucks.

I got a new computer for Christmas. My old computer was a 7 year old macbook basic, so I'm feeling Behndorz sentiments so hard.

Have you guys heard about this Steam thing?!?

Yes, totally. I expected some device that enables zero gravity copulation or something of that sort.

I'm more intrigued by peak-bellcurve *obsolete* technology than leftover *futuristic* technology with planned-obsolescence that kicks in after 3 years.

One thing's for sure, I'm glad I'll be dead before humans are able to upload their consciousness into some digital dystopian nightmare.
Humankind is unworthy of such technology.
Long live mortality ;)

But as for fucking technology....I'm hopeful Japan will perfect the fuckabots within the next decade.

Edit:  knew I wasn't going to be the only one who made that^ connection with the thread title. ILFshenz.
