While the paint cures, time to move on to neck stuff. It's pouring rain so going out to the woodshed to paint isn't happening. So I worked on getting a decent nut to replace the horrible one that came with it.
I trimmed the alum down to size with a dremmel and then a grinder.
I then scored the top of the alum piece, and to late, I realized that the spacing on the original nut was ever so slightly off. I should have checked. this will still be fine but I'd prefer to have had it perfect. I may make another one that is spaced correctly.
After some more work its starting to get close to final shape. I'll smooth it out some more and polish it up before gluing in place.

I'm letting the paint on the body cure for a bit, So today I did a bit on the neck.
I figured leaving the headstock completely unadorned was kinda lame so I cut out a design from some copper shielding tape.
I then sprayed the neck, just a little trans black on the middle and darker on the ends and headstock.
I'm hoping as I sand back and then polish that the copper will be revealed.

Glad you like
I am, however a bit pissed at myself. The headstock Idea I think was a good one and I'm pleased how it's coming out. Still some sanding to do on the neck but it's showing through like I'd hoped it would. I should have sprayed more coats on the body though. I normally do and my thoughts were to keep it thin on this one, of course now I have a couple spots where I sanded through.

I'm considering redoing it. I have not decided yet. It's a lot of work haha.
So here's where the headstock is at.
And here is the top of the guitar.
Here is the back.
and heres a close up of the fuck up.
It's not the end of the world but it was dumb. I should not have bought into the whole thin paint toanz thing but yeah

So minor issue, only bringing it up because I know a few people are looking at getting this kit. One of the top string through body ferrules is missing. so there are only six for now. Not a big deal and wont slow down the build. I already ordered a replacement. Just another flaw in the kit they sent out. Also I think i allready mentioned that the holes for the ferrules are offset from the bridge. really just a cosmetic issue.
Edit: gotta retract that, the missing one must have gone flying when I opened the plastic it was in. It turned up on my floor and is now installed in the guitar.
I should have this in a playable state tonight or tomorrow.

another note on the quality of the kit, I drilled the holes to install the truss rod cover, and the had not one, but two of the screws brek while I was putting them in. I wasnt even applying an excessive amount of pressure! So the screws that come with the kit are garbage metal. So I'm on hold while I fuger out an alternative truss rod cover plan.

Here's the latest setback. The Bridge pickup was DOA. I actually went so far as to dissasemble it and discovered that the positive wire was not actually connected to anything.
So now I'm on the hunt for an inexpensive and hopefully decent replacement.
I did plug it in last night and play it a bit with just the neck pickup and it sounded pretty good!
