I just bought a house that has wallpaper everywhere, in every room, even ON THE CEILINGS in some rooms. In the hallways, in the bathroom, in the kitchen.... I mean I know that's why I was able to afford it, but come on... who does this?!?!?

This is my record room being de-papered. It's not as hard as it looks. You can buy this awesome spray, and it soaks through, it took me about a day to strip a whole room, then a day to patch the holes the electrician knocked in, then painting.....

And this is my dining room after a wall was torn down.....

Also: I don't live in England.....

maybe it just makes it look more interesting than plain walls.

did they have funky wallpaper in trainspotting? i havent seen it for a while.
there was probably a big boom in DIY and wallpaper in the 60s/70s, and for a lot of people they may have never bothered to change it
I think the wallpaper in train-spotting was just gaudy shit you'd picture on the walls of heroin addicts house in Glasgow in the 90's.

It seems to be common in low budget housing and inner city buildings from the 90's and 80's. Same kinda deal here in Ireland too. The reason it pops ups in movies so much is that it's kind of a design trope attached to inner city shit holes from that period. I remember seeing loads of it when I was a kid.
