i made it through day 1 OK, but it was way tougher than i expected. it's more archiving stuff--i.e. sorting hundreds of randomly-boxed case records into year order and then entering records for each file in a database--for a major insurance company than the "data entry" i was promised. still, it's work, and they seemed happy enough with me. tomorrow i get to do more computer stuff. thank you for your support, folks. it was very comforting to know you were out there backing me.

Yeah, Sylnau hit it on the head - give it time, you'll get the swing of the company and your role. It's just a means to an end at this point. If it can help support you, or at least help out with structure, it's a good thing.

On my last job change, day 1 was a whole lot of sitting on my ass doing nothing. Day 2 was me sitting in network closets pulling ethernet cable for 6 hours. If it had continued like that, I would have quit. Luckily I gave it a week and found out it was just shitty timing on a shitty job that had to get done. I totally love my job now. Been about a year and a half now.

well, up and quitting isn't an option as my savings are almost gone, and i really mean GONE. but this at least should be bearable for now.

But you'll pull through. Just repeat to yourself daily/internally that you WILL succeed at this to the point where at the end of your term, you'll be given a fantastic reference, if not offered a full-time position outright.
