I recently moved to Mesa, Arizona. I've been here about a month. It's a sprawling suburban desert landscape. At the end of my block there is a strip mall with a pawn shop and a gun store.

Pocatello, Idaho for the last 15 years.

I rarely leave my apartment being a cripple in ill health these days, but I make up for it by surrounding myself with cool peoples and stuffs.

The folks are decent around here, there's a very Old West 'do what you want as long as it doesn't hurt somebody else' vibe going on, and I must say that my living room is the cultural highlight of town these days thanks to the mighty, mighty dubkitty every week or so.

I'd have hated it when I was younger but older me gets along fine with what it is - a slow, nice place in obscurity.

I live in the central coast, NSW, Australia
About 5 minutes away from this
http://assets.rh.com.au/content//rapid_ ... 748274.jpg
About 6 absolutely gorgeous beaches within 20 minutes of me. I'm not too much of a beach person but its nice occasionally and I like taking my dog down a few times a week
About an hour and a half from Sydney which isn't too bad
There used to be a huge underage music scene here but as bands got older it sort of died out, my last band caught the last 6 months or so of the explosion, now there isn't much left, but its close enough to the city that commuting for gigs isn't too big of an issue

It's an incredibly beautiful part of the world and I'm really content that I was raised here, I think I want to move away for a while but come back when I have kids of my own

south-west Sydney, NSW, 'straya

I don't mind my suburb because I live on a few acres of land, so it's not awfully noisy and you can still see the stars at night. I'm about 45 minutes from the city which is handy but petrol is stupidly expensive and traffic is pretty ridiculous sometimes.
The music scene even right in the city is like 90% shitty Tame Impala and Black Keys ripoff bands. It's pretty depressing.

I'm definitely moving overseas sometime after I finish my uni degree. Australia is a beautiful country but the culture overall is pretty fucking awful.

Just moved to Charlottesville, VA (not living out of a suitcase anymore!).
It's a typical college town. Lots of questionable bars, copious amounts of "bros", surprisingly good coffee, and a few really good venues.
It's nice and scenic, but not too far from bigger cities with more things going on.
Oh, and not a single damn guitar shop here :grumpy:

I grew up in central MA, lived in Boston for 6 or 7 years, and then got married, had a kid and moved to the suburbs of Providence, RI. Providence is a cool city, but I really dug Boston too, especially for all the public transport. It made it a lot easier to go out, and not bother with trying to find parking (which is a major bitch in Providence).

Grew up outside, but recently moved into Milwaukee (well am slowly transitioning). East side, on Brady Street. It's pretty cool so far. Still dealing with the shock of going from a boring-ass small town to living in a super hip side of town. There's a cool little dive right across the street from my new place that has bands play and open mics on monday nights. Also, a million other bars and restaurants within walking distance.

But here's some cool stuff about the city in general. Highest arts funding per capita for a major city.

ART:

Plus tons of little galleries

MUSIC:

The Summerfest grounds

The Borg Ward AKA home to the very first ILFest!

North Ave. Bayview, Riverwest are all other great areas full of a variety of venues. And of course the major ones downtown (the Turner, Pabst, The Rave, etc.)

FESTIVALS:
Seriously, just so fucking many. All the time.

BASEBALL:

Look at that beastie, rising like the mighty Tarkus over the southwest suburbs

and oh yeah BEEEEEERRRRR

Milwaukee is actually pretty fucking great. Although public transportations sucks is the one downside. And segregation/socie-economic disparities in some parts of the city.

I live in Grand Rapids, MI.
We are now known as Beer City, USA. It's more of a fun affectation than anything else, but we do have some fucking incredible breweries here slash in the whole state.

Grand Rapids is kind of a little big city. Population is not bad, downtown is somewhat lacking and we're not really on the way to/from Detroit or Chicago so we only occasionally get good tours.

Local music scene isn't bad depending on what you're into. Our most liked DIY venue was recently shut down / bought out in what can truly be considered a travesty of gentrification of downtown. Mostly spawned from the burgeoning of our arts festival, Art Prize, which brings a lot of people downtown for what has become a mediocre representation of the arts. AKA, mostly Jesus pieces from the crazies in West Michigan.

That being said, cost of living is low and there are plenty of great places to live. You also have the added benefit of being incredibly close to the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan.

I live in Franklin Park, Illinois. It's a suburban town just outside of Chicago. I actually prefer it here to actually being in the city. Really chill town with a couple of nice parks, everything I could ever really need is in walking distance (other than guitar stores for buying strings cus I enjoy playing on some of the keyboards, basses, and electrics while I'm there). Really nice looking downtown area, and I can get to downtown Chicago by train in 15-20 minutes. Can get to where I lived when I was a kid so I can walk from there down to lakefront + do some shopping with a 30ish minute bus ride.

I live in Lexington, KY. Second largest city in the state, basically an overgrown college town. There are some cool things about it and plenty of shitty things.

Good: A surprising number of venues, a couple guitar shops, plenty of bars, fairly cheap to live in, nice scenery.
Bad: Almost no public transport, can't go anywhere without a car, very spread out, plenty of hicks/douches, limited music scene, and not much outside of the city.

Wouldn't recommend it but it's easy enough to get by here for now.
Actually stay out of KY altogether. Trust me.
