I dunno...the dude who wrote that article is kind of an obnoxious jackass. It's hard to take him seriously. The people who truly love and support his article and that attitude are prolly stupid too. It's safe to make this assumption because INTERNET.
It's a special Internet thing, like how I instantly discount or can't stand 80% of people online (98% in online games, youtube, craigslist or torrent sites), but still try to have faith in humanity as a whole.
I think there are more "regular deaf people" than these dumbasses would make it seem.

i think it's more fair, as others have done, to say that the problem isn't deaf people per se, but rather is a subset of all deaf people who have what i'll refer to as a Movement Attitude, an idea that they're somehow exempt from normative standards of human behavior. i kind of hate to ise the word "normal" because i'm not, but it slipped out in my earlier post.

I mean....i have what most would consider "disabilities". When i was a kid doing anything with my hands that required fine detail made my hand shake so bad that until 3rd or 4th grade i had to wear weighted gloves on my hands just to fucking write. Noone offered me the use of a computer....they also held me back in 3rd grade cause i couldnt write in cursive (my parents moved me to private school). This added to the fact that my mother was a cracked out piece of shit that couldnt kick the dope long enough to carry and give birth to me resulted in some fucked up personality/emotional/learning disorders.
I dont expect anyone to change to accommodate me unless im paying for a service like college, where I receive separate testing environments because if someone talks while im taking a test, i still, at the age of 28, havent quite overcome the urge to slam their head into a desk. Or like in the work place where I ask not to be positioned in extreme heights because im on amphetamines and i could stroke out or some shit...but expecting the entire world to change or immediately understand exactly how you need to be interacted with in a social setting makes you a fucking asshole. Do i flip the fuck out when people tell me my writing sucks and guilttrip them about my mom being a crackwhore? Well....i mean i have once or twice but only when it was really funny.

It's obviously unfair to conflate all deaf people--who are no doubt culturally, philosophically, behaviorally diverse--into one group. I think a lot of people want to make the argument that "[insert any group] are assholes," because it just so happens that a lot of
people are...assholes. So it's easier to group them (deaf assholes, short assholes, etc). Mention "_____ assholes," and I probably know the type. But if someone can be labeled an asshole, you can also probably categorize their assholeness or try to pinpoint its origin (
oh, it's because they're short/ugly/lonely/deaf/limbless/injured/orphaned/only child/etc). Some of them will even put themselves in one of those categories to give them an excuse for being an asshole, which makes them doubly assholish.
Sure, people with disabilities are probably more likely to get frustrated...and I think a lot of people want to give them a pass because of that, and some disabled people choose to take advantage of that leeway. They shouldn't, and it makes me dislike them. But do I
totally blame the ones that do? Maybe a little. But it's probably a bit ignorant, especially because I'd be
at least depressed, if not an asshole, if I were deaf. (I say "probably" because
I don't know.)
I don't know how much of this is you trying to be provocative/funny to emphasize your opinion; same goes for the guy who wrote that blog (I suspect he's a deaf asshole, though. And if he wasn't deaf, he'd probably find something else to be an asshole about.) But one deaf guy doesn't speak for all deaf people--he's not the president of the deaf.
As it sometimes happens, your Too Far Meter might be a bit off.
I prefer it when you're embracing (or getting mouth-embraces from) the handicapped.
To the several people who are going to report this thread: a moderator might shut it down, edit the subject, whatever...personally, I think TBH can voice this opinion, and people can agree, flip out, tweak, shun, etc him in response. It's just like if someone said this in a group of people, meeting of friends, coworkers, public square...he knows the range of possible responses he's risking/inviting by posting this, and it'll go where it goes.

Also,
People expect me to act like a victim (or be angry/bitter) because of my disability, but I refuse.
...is more probably more honorable--and definitely more productive--than:
People expect me to "buck up" and not be bitter/angry about my disability, but I won't conform to that expectation to please people and make them feel more comfortable.

Man saying "alot of people are assholes blah blah blah " is just some lazy shit. Im not calling you out thom you know i luh you but i mean. Im just saying in my opinion deaf people are assholes. Ive never met a nice one in my life. Im not saying we should cart them off to work camps or gas them. Im just saying in my experience they are assholes, then this guy, posting with the sanction of some major deaf interest groups, went and confirmed my hypothesis.
People always rush to say shit like "oh man i dont define my life by the things i dont like" or "sitting around saying you dont like something isnt going to make it go away blah blah " thats cool and all but no way are you that positive. Everyone has thoughts like these all the time. The reason I talk about shit like that is not because im a negative person, but i delight in the truthfulness and humanity on display when someone talks about how ...for instance....subway smells like used feminine hygiene product and makes them want to barf. Do you immediately rush to say OH MAN THERES BAD RESTAURANTS OUT THERE BUT GROUPING THEM ALL TOGETHER IS WRONG AND RACIST. YOURE RESTAURANT RACIST. YOU RESTRAUNTIST. No. Cause restaurants arent sentient beings but humans are. But i argue that id much rather a thousand human beings die tomorrow than i lose access to my favorite gyro spot.

Im just saying if youve got hate in your heart let it out. Within reason. Like mild hate not serious genocide thoughts or something. But saying something negative isnt a necessarily negative thing. Everyone doesnt like shit, so statistically, when you say something negative, you are just as likely to have someone say HAHA I FEEL THE SAME LETS BE BUDS as you are ignoring that the world isnt ponies and rainbows. And dont judge other people for the shit they dont like either, cause i fucking know you also don't like shit for completely irrational reasons.

Through the course of my life I've learned that people who are born deaf don't hear speech in their dreams.
For whatever reason, that's stuck with me.

I was in a black metal band with a drummer that had two deaf parents. This adds nothing to the thread but we could practice as late as we wanted.
And I have a good friend now who has two deaf parents and he tells me all the time how deaf people are assholes. Basically that they are insanely blunt. Anecdotal. And his words. Not mine.

I didn't ask to be born with the affliction of white skin, fully functioning organs and limbs, and complete senses and mental faculties (not to mention this burdensome giant cock),...so don't blame me for or take your afflictions; whatever they may be out on me.
The guy that wrote that article is a baby. We get it, you have to communicate and interact differently and that's frustrating,...but get down off your high horse and put yourself in the proletariat "hearing people's" shoes for a moment and consider how frustrating it is to have to communicate and interact with a deaf person. To be afraid that we who can hear cannot communicate effectively with a deaf person. I've been in those situations and I try to handle that adversity with as much grace and dignity as possible.
Perhaps if deaf people did that as well; rather than getting annoyed with people who have as much control over their ability to hear as a deaf person has over their inability to hear. But judging from the linked article it seems like all deaf people are annoyed with everyone that can hear.
I won't apologize for something I have no control over.
EDIT: Further,...marginalizing 6 billion people (the article writers words not mine); all with their own set of problems and adversities to face isn't really graceful and dignified behavior. It's not like there are water fountains, restaurants and schools that are "Hearing People Only". It's not like starvation and famine only afflict people who can hear. Now I hope I never go deaf. Not because I don't wanna loose my hearing as much as don't want to be stigmatized as a fucking asshole.
